I've been thinking about this lately and I think it'd be pretty cool. Something like nentindo power or all the other magizenes but digital obviosly. I always enjoy reading the Awards and MOTM and as well as the features and I just wish there was more content in that sector.

Some of the things i'd like to see in it:

  • A Monthly Release, or at least regularly
  • Technical stuff, like talking about how to code random effects in Half Life, I might not understand it, but it usually makes a fun read
  • More Mod Reviews, like older mods that are all completed but still deserve a playing
  • Art and Graphics Contests

I'm sure many of you can think of other stuff and i know theres a lot of great writers out there that aren't staff and that would love to contribute to something like this.

Good idea, I like your style. I'm sure it would be a very popular feature, and it could be something that various different members could contribute to. I know I'd read it, and if I had something valid to say I would be happy to help write for it. Maybe this could be implemented into version 2. I'm hoping it is. :)

heck, i'd pay for it, it'd still be hard, sending it all over the world.

I bet bluewolf would back this. We can hope.

May 23 2004 Anchor

No no no, I would pay for it, but I seriously doubt modDB would be able to do such a thing, without going commercial, and that would be no good.

well, the admins could each print them out at there own kinko's an mail them, but ya.

print wasn't the real idea. A digital version is just as good. And you can print them yourself is you want.

OK... I think we've established that a printed version is not feasible due to costs and impracticality, but that wasn't the original idea. duckedtapedemon suggested an online newsletter or an ezine, which is not only feasible but aparently popular from the responses in this thread. It would be easier to produce and would not cost money.

How hard is it really? you just put up an address and your like, everyone send in your articles here by a certain part of the month, then they get edited (hopefully not) and someone does a layout of them in publisher or something.

The only real staff you'd need for what I'm thinking of is a couple editors.

@jackson, I'm not talking some automated email list thry goes out to everyone at the end of the month saying the motm, for example I'm for talking about something like

Fragfiles.org

dont mind the content and stuff, its a lot of phreaking and thinking freely stuff, but this is what inspired me.

The trouble is, we don't have time or manpower to edit vast articles. If it was automated, you got an email with MOTM, an awards list, select features and maybe some editorial wouldn't that be much better? especially coz it could tie in with modwatch and give you say... new pics for mods you watch?

Then don't start big. Start with a few small articles and maybe get bigger from there. Only produce what the current manpower can handle.

Just recruit a few people to work on the magazine, then the current staff will not have more work to do.

the trouble with that is that all current staff know exactly what's going on, we really don't want more if it could be a matter of a few of us write an editorial once a month. I do it for my school, it's no big deal.

Jacksons idea of a database dump of the recent mod of the month and any features is really the only viable option.

INtense has less time than us, so dont expect any miracles.

I could put enough weekly time into something like what i talked about editing and writing.

I started work on a design at www.fragfiles.org/hosted/duckedtapedemon/piliot.pdf

if you dont want a non-staff member working on this... then bah.
