Naruto mods that never came. | Locked | |

I'd like to start off by saying, that I am very new to mod development. Why? From my experience Naruto is a great show. Why do all these projects die? And why are they all in need of coders, wouldn't you find a coder before you even seriously consider making a mod? While I believe these mods would be fun, I'm not sure they are ambitious enough, or great enough ideas. They all seem to be just kill each other with characters from the anime and take place on maps from the show. While that is all well and good. Couldn't something better be done? If you want to be in Naruto, shouldn't you give it your best shot? I mean make it almost like being in the show, I don't even know if this is possible, I would assume it would be damn hard. But couldn't you make some crazy game that boarders on an action RPG? Make a unique ninja by choosing some options, gain xp... Become better, do missions with other players... Think of it as a mini-mmorpg... I mean there is so much you can do with this idea. If I were to do a naruto game, I would atleast try to attain 5 times this idea. Though I can't yet, I am foolish and ambitious enough to try. But before I fall flat on my face... Does anyone think such a game could be possible? Using an already made engine, then modding the crap out of it into something almost entirely new... Can this be done? (I know this was kind of an unfocused rant, but the main ideas are here... Why do naruto mods fail? Well I thank those of you who read this... And I would like to thank those of you who refrain from flaming me now... |

Well, Naruto is great and all, but I really wish someone would try a different series; one without as much attention. Try Hajime no Ippo (boxing anime where a young boy of 16, after being bullied for so long, gets saved by a professional boxer, and aspires to be one himself). Or anything like that. I actually wish people would try to create their own anime mod--one that isn't based off a famous show or manga or anything like that. I think a Naruto mod can be done, it's just that the transition is really hard to create from manga/anime show to mod. There are some good Naruto mods making some fierce development out there, but it'll take a while for them to go to beta. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Anime games and mods have never done well on the PC. They are pretty much for japanese console fans. |

The reason is that any coder with some sort of dignity would refrain from pursuiing a mod that involves anything with an anime. As many people who think anime mods are great, there are a greater number of people, these including coders, who believe that anime itself is stupid. I may also note that coding is the hardest position to fill, and that you can get any idiot to fill in the other spots.Coders these days are looking for unique projects, not some cartoon rip-off. -- When there is no more room in Hell, the Dead will walk the Earth. chis wrote: |

Alot of mods don't get finished, often Anime, there is a definite stigma against most, granted that most are the worst concepts ever comprising whatever acid tripping thoughts could be written and probably mistranslated further, though few truly have solid, can be followed, story and plotlines, and interesting, non-childish characters, with a semblance of true conflicts. Don't know if Naruto follows that, but, at first thought an Anime ends up being what I wrote above, hence why it is a stigma, and thus the stigma will be passed on. Only ever been a fan of Akira, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and perhaps a bit of Samurai X though I'm really tired of Jappop beginnings...another quarrel we'll have. |

Anime mods = started by 12 year olds Coders = not 12 years old |

You hit the nail right on the head with that. Most anime mod leaders don't really do anything for the mod at all except for a simple site and forum setup. The concept is usually along the lines of "well have these characters it's gonna be gr8!" and there's usually only model renders and never EVER ingame media. It's all for prestige, popularity and ego i could say. The majority of anime mods that fail are a creation out of a obsession. Edited by (in order): leilei, leilei -- < insert subject games here >

Hmm, not 'everyone' is that young. But I must agree that most people who starts mods based on anime are small kids who don't know anything. I once thought of starting a mod based on Naruto with ideas reassembling VonToggle's description of what a good Naruto-mod could've been. But, I of course went to moddb to check first and what did I find by then? One of the first mods and now probably the most in-active Naruto mod ever. Demon Seal. Oh, btw, I thought like giving a message to all those anime-haters who only think that anime is Dragonball and Naruto; ever seen Last Exile or TEXHNOLYZE for example? You see, everything ain't mindless fighting series with the same jokes and styles seen over and over again. People need to see the trees instead of the forest. (If you didn't understand that sentence, I don't know who is the stupid person here...) Oops, went off-topic a while there. But, in my opinion; Hell yes! It sure is possible to make a good mod if you have people who got the motivation for it. |

I lead a naruto mod that's just recently began working, and i'm not some 12 year old kid. I'm an 18 year old college student who's majoring in game design. I chose naruto because i believe it's a good basis for a mod and with good leadership and the team i had put together we could quite easily acheive a release, and it's something to keep my mind off of the frustrations of school and life. Not all anime mods are destined to fail. Any mod with good leadership and dedicated team members can achieve their ultimate goal. Btw, I'm the leader of the mod that was previously linked. I'm by no means saying that the mod i run is better than any other but we do take pride in our work (well most of us). Our mod has a pretty decent chance at hitting a release. Though i do admit the odds certainly tell a different story, but the team including myself are working our asses off to show that we are capable of creating a mod that's worth playing. |

Our mod is anime, but it's directed to a more-adult audience. It doesn't mean any of our members are kids, either. Our coder is in college, and most of the members are 15+. We're not some preteen fanatics, either. This is just a way to try out something different. If you guys want to stick with the cookie-cutter mold, go right on ahead. Not to mention, an original anime mod is better than one based off of a series. It's a lot more difficult as well, but you don't have to be restricted to what other people think should be included, because you're not trying to recreate something. That garners a lot more freedom, anyway. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
