modDB v2 - Server v2 Thread

Well, as you all know i love Scott

Last night i found out i had received a large inheritance from an uncle who had passed away a few months ago.

So, of course, i did the geek thing and went to dell.com, and purchased a new server for moddb. (also got another one of the same to replace another oktagone server).

Currently, OktaGone hosts about 40% of its servers in Florida, another 40% in New York, and the final lot are in Houston.

We also have a couple of Aussie servers.

The new servers that have been ordered are Dell Poweredge 2600's..

Dual Intel Xeon 2.4Ghz CPU's with 1MB cache
Dual 36GB Ultra320 10K RPM SCSI Hdd's
1GB of PC2700 ECC DDR RAM

these are going to be fitted into our New York DC sometime in the next few months, hopefully early in january.

The total hardware cost for the new boxes is around $8000 AUD ($5500 US), but im sure it will be put to good use

The new server itself will not just come for the soul benefit of being faster, its location in our new datacenter (New York, upper manhatten), has just had new pipes installed to Verio, taking their total peering points upto 12.

Currently, the server/network moddb's server is hosted on is becoming, and will continue to become exceptionally congested.

Hopefully, will kickstart the use of this box very soon!

Sorry about your uncle. great news about the servers.
wish i had that kind of spec in my pc.

dont need to worry bout ze uncle, he wasnt a direct relative of mine, i never even knew him :o

aint for playing games tho well it can , but er, i wouldent think he will be using it for games

the 40gig 1 is for my school they give it to me at about half the retail price
