I already discussed the possibility of starting a weekly modDB newsletter with INtense!, who said that he could easily add in the code for it, but doesn't have time to create the content. So, I was thinking, would you guys be interested in writing for a modDB newsletter? Though I'd assume that admins, moderators, and feature writers would get priority on positions in the crew of newsletter writers, I'm sure that the list wouldn't be confined to staff members. INtense! is letting me come up with the ideas for it, so here is the type of content that should go into each newsletter, in my opinion: This isn't very much, so please post in this thread with any additional suggestions you may have. Also, if you'd be interested in helping with the newsletter, post in here, and I'm sure that once this get's started, INtense!, or another one of the admins will get in touch with you. Regards, |

That'd be awesome I'd definitely love to help you out if you did it If there's anything that isn't too challenging, I'd love to try it. Mostly writing is what I can help with. It'd be pretty fun to actually have a weekly newsletter on Moddb -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Yep, this would be awesome. I suggested something roughly similar about half a year ago, ( Moddb.com ), but back then the site was that much smaller and scott and the crew were that much busier with other stuff that it didn't fly. I'd be interested in helping too, I've done some writing for fragfiles and I've been doing some for my own site when that launches. Maybe a "modding event of the week?" or just some random fact / tip. I always love things that give you little advice bits. I don't think theres to much else you could add, before it goes from newsletter to an ezine, or just a block of content sent out by email. How would the Help Wanted ads be chosen though? By random or selected as being "most needy". Selection by human seems like it could start some drama though, and the site sure doesn't need any more of that. So ya, random facts get my vote along with keeping it not TOO long. Edited by: duckedtapedemon |

Excellent ideas, guys! I love the idea of Stuffie doing some little sketches.. It could turn out AWESOME! Duckedtapedemon, I like the idea of random tips, as well. There could also be a list of the new tutorials for each week. You definately have a point on Help Wanteds, so I think that the best would be to format it like this: there would be a box titled Help Wanted, with each of the main categories of help (i.e. Mapping, Modelling, Coding, Other), with a number next to it, representing how many ads there are in that category. You could of course click on each section, and be taken to a the actual list of ads in that category. |

I dunno... just I mean does ModDB have that much stuff that happens in a week that is vital information. You can't just throw random info about ModDB on there, it will look amateur. Most newsletters discuss new events/happenings in a community, website, etc. I guess it could work if you could find enough stuff that actually has a point to it --

Alright kiddies, can you guess the secret word? It begins with an S, and ends with an M, and here's the tricky part, it has a P and an A in the middle. |

Its a peer to peer network for a specific file or folder. Linux comes on it, the creator was also hired by valve. And you can get movies and software from it, but thats the part for its reputation. |

It'd also be cool to have a Weekly Download, for either the modding community or for basic PC usage. Everyone loves a weekly download -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

Well, we could include Stuffie's Moddb Plug-In for Firefox, or custom wallpapers made by Moddb members. Not to mention, you know that "Incredibly Useful Desktop Tools" thread? Put a link on the newsletter that sends you to one of those tools that can probably help out a lot of people. It'd be really nice I wouldn't mind doing reviews for games, but I suppose I'd need a list of games that need reviews, so I know which ones to write about. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |
