Moddb IRC Channel Thread

What is the irc channel? I remember it being on games net but its not there now... please inform me!

I don't know how to use IRC, too much complicated, but I am interested on leraning how to use it.

1. Download XChat.
2. Install it.
3. Load it.
4. Click on the 'Add' button above the list of servers.
5. Name the new server 'GameSurge' or 'ModDB'.
6. Click on the 'Edit mode' checkbox.
7. In the servers list change the first entry to 'irc.gamesurge.net'.
8. In the join channels box add #moddb
9. Uncheck 'Edit mode' and click 'Connect'.

You don't need to edit again Just select it and connect.

Xchat is for Linux.

Chewbacca if you want help setting up mIRC to get on the channel just IM me sometime and I will walk you through it.

there is an xchat for windows but i dont like it

i had mirc before but its so dang complicated, i saw like a white screen looked like notepad.....is that supposed to be like a chat area? how do u join servers?

Anyone needs help with the IRC:

• www.mirc.com - This is my recommended client.
• Open mIRC. It will look kinda like Notepad with style. You may get a connection dialog. This is very simple, have a go (You really cannot bugger it up easily). However, if you want a quick start then close the window and read on.
• Type the following and hit return (This adds the server to your list):

/server -a irc.gamesurge.net -g GameSurge -d GameSurge IRC Network



• Type the following and hit return (This sets your nickname):

/nick [YourNameHere]



• Type the following and hit return (This actually connects you to the server):

/server irc.gamesurge.net



• Type the following and hit return (This joins the modDB Channel):

/join #moddb



• Done! If you need help with registering with AuthServ (Highly recommended), or setting up your perform or default server (Also highly recommended) then ask an operator (Someone with @ next to their name in the list on the right) and they will help you out. Me or Gorilla are usually good starting points if nobody else will help.

triallian = worst irc client ever

DONT DO TRILLIAN for any purposes ever! Use Xchat for IRC and Gaim for multi-IM'ing.

i used to use trillian. now its kinda for idiots.

i just use the actually clients these days, gaim doesn't run to stable for me.

Gaim crashes when you hover over links

Only lame wankers use scripts. I mean that! The only people I know who use scripts tend to be the same people who can't speak english ("I r0k ur w0rld").

Oh and your wrong about XChat being for linux, XChat if for any operating system that supports gtk. Although some work has to be done to compile it on new operating systems, it doesn't mean its not meant to be run on them.

XChat is the best client for windows and linux, mirc is one of the worst as in all the people who use it tend to have no idea how to use irc and just use shitty scripts that spam your channel.

Please everyone stop telling newbies to use mirc, and please make sure they never find out about scripts!

duckedtapedemon: To minimize gaim to the system tray you need to turn on a plugin, go into the settings and look under the plugin tab.

CheapAlert: have you reported the bug? If not go do it because if you don't it will probably happen in every future version.

Oh and yes, Trillian is a pos.

I dont use them for spamming I set up short keys etc.. ive seen mIRC abused, AND ITS HORRIBLE

I just dont like x-chat :/ to confined, cant minmize to tray (my friends will get their hands on it if not)

I have used mirc for ages, no scripts tho. It's easy, everything is in help, and it's pretty customizable (backgrounds etc.) - experts can play with it, however newbies to irc can easily learn it too. BTW, not all scripts are bad - I won't forget the quiz days
