So I said my last post was like 6 months ago, but I guess not. Because I had to come back to my old stomping grounds and rock the boat so all of you could think, one last time. Call it my last shot for creating hope in the future. Now I know there's alot of new people here who don't know me, but I am an oldtimer, just a very inactive, abandoning, oldtimer. I loved cosmos, and I love politics, so here's one last go, for old time's sake, that encompasses everything I've been thinking about this whole christmas/holiday tree/christianity vs. all comers thing that's been in the news for some time. (For the record, I am an atheist, but yeah, I say christmas, because that's what I like calling it, so martyr me.) Seriously, read this if you have the chance, and think about all of it. If you don't understand a reference in the story, click the link, and read the story. There's alot of info here, and I warn you, this is somewhat adult and graphic, so be mature and have a discussion about the TOPIC. Not the great new obscenities you can shout at school. A big what's up to all the oldtimers still here, if you still remember me, you can always talk to me, contact info is on my profile. Shouts to Wilhelm and SCM. Jacko too, and everyone else I loved, respected, and passed a beer too. Specially Intense, since I got that name change from him... and well he MADE the site. Oh and that one guy carni for at least making my time here interesting. I like V3 btw. It's a little busy for my tastes though. Sorry about the Off topic stuff, but there's alot a guy has to cram in a last post that is really spur the moment ans about 3 months too late. |

He does raise some good points, points already raised many times before but often a strong argument is one that doesnt involve the eight degree of swearing and slandering. Apart from that let the "fundamentalists" (nice use of word yes ) do what they want to do and say what they want, no-one is going to make a law against calling it xmas or holiday season so the only real worry are the members of the public that either get over excited or are so stupid they get sucked into the whole thing and start to preach the same message. And in many cases those sort of people stick to themselves right so its not a huge issue. If a large corporation changes its message from merry christmas to happy holidays the odds are they realised the large amount of publicity theyd get from it and what better time for free publicity? Church and State will always be an issue and will always affect each other in some small or large way despite this something as stupid as xmasvs holiday is pointless, the whole idea as this guy said behind the modern xmas is wrong anyway so why fight and argue over nothing. Be the bigger person realize how pointless it is and laugh as they burn themselves out, they only have 15days of fame left then they'll have to start complaining that its not "new year"... -- 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' |

If his argument wasn't primarily fueled by profanity, I might actually take him seriously and finish reading his points. Instead he just sounds like a raving ass and completely undermines his own goals in writing it, unless he wishes to sound like a twelve year old in a Counter-Strike forum. |

Joe: I'll check this out later when I have a good chance. Until then I must say I would say Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Hannukah! Just don't get me too started into what's labeled "politically incorrect" --

I agree. And no matter what everybody says, its Christmas, not anything else. And kwanza is a made up holiday. No religion behind it. |

Well if someone says "happy holidays " to you, im sure whatever your religion you get the point. They are wishing you peace and happyness while you celebrate your thing. The christams vs holiday crap is a non issue. Its compleatly irrelivent. |

what pisses me off more is shitty companies who squash names together, and people like sticky who buy into it when are people going to realize christmas is to mourn the loss of american soldiers who died facing off against robo-jesus 37 years ago (on the 25th, that is) in Nam or stop saying 'oh christmas is so commercialized' and then buying the most expensive stuff around because they dont want to have any spare change for when they pass around that plate in church - you know, church, that thing you go to ONLY on easter and christmas so you hog up all the seats and no one can have any fun because everyones too busy trying to convince themselves they're doing the right thing by going to church on a major holiday |

Silent, I think you miss the point of Christmas being a made up holiday, and regardless of whether or not you wish to simply follow the other little sheep in celebrating a religious figure, the fact is it was created at some point. Now, that will probably be rather offensive but, Christmas is not a Christian holiday, which the author does a fair job expressing, everyone is only a sheep because they fail to realize this and continue worshipping it on a holiday converted from Pagan tradition, and created does not mean fabricated though I'll bet that before those 2045 or so years ago at what you would say is Jesus' birth, they were not celebrating Christmas just yet. Next time, do not attempt to degrade Kwanza as less than a real holiday when the founders of the country used to seperate Africans who were form the same tribe or could otherwise communicated, forced new nomenclature on them, and stole the entirity of a folklore history and myth to leave them with no proper identity. I've celebrated Kwanza alongside friends a couple of years and will again this year, I am not of what can be considered African lineage at all, I did not understand it, though it is celebratory and rational. However, I think these "Christians" who feel Christmas is being besieged need to understand, they pressed the boundaries in the opposite direction. Cities cannot erect Christmas trees, they realistically are not allowed, a Holiday tree is fine, however, any kind of specific religious representation has to be equally provided for. Thus if someone wishes a Mennorah and Dredel (sorry to any Jews, I don't know enough religious symbolism for it) to be placed or otherwise remove the nativity scene, then they should comply one way or another. What creates a problem is when state officials decline to do either, thus favoring one specific religion and removing the idea of others. Companies, say Happy Holidays if you want to be smart, post that everywhere, use Christmas on everything associated with Christmas specifically, just realize, that is a marketing concept, and everyone else out there, if 95% of the people feel more comfortable with Happy Holidays than Merry Christmas compared to your 5%, YOU ARE WRONG, deal with it, 5% of everything gets branded with Merry Christmas, and we're done. This is a very simple concept, we place down a line, you stay on your side, we stay on our own. When a person violates this line they are shown the equality of our personal space, and they are pressed back to behind these lines. When a person violates this line knowingly and angstfully, you shove them back across a few feet to better represent the fact that it will not be tolerated. Give it a year, the Happy Holidays will quiet down after this or next year, and no one will care. P.S. Yeah the author kind of ruined his point with a lot of vulgarity, my own was no where close to as "shock value" as his, and it still loses a bit of credibility. |

I take offense at the use of the words 'Merry' and 'Happy'. It's insulting to depressed people. We should instead all say "acceptable" I'm also offended by the words 'christmas', 'holidays' and 'have'. And 'the'. [/satire] -- Defeat in Detail 2 - Standalone RTS Game |

Wow. All these things i never knew Preeeeeeeeeeeety sad. I didn't think the Roman's had the same CALENDAR AS WE DO READ THIS KNOB-SHINER - Roman-britain.org QUOTE-Christians just stole a bunch of traditions from other cultures, slapped them together, stuck a f*cking tinfoil star on top and called it the Most Important Holiday of the Year. Modern American Christmas makes Michael Jackson look positively organic. Indeed? Ireally do wonder where we stole the idea of jesus being born from. Hmmmmmm... maybe we made up when we commercialised christmas. Or maybe the "PAGANS" called it CHRIST-mass just for the hell of it. You know what... ITS THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS THATS FRIGGIN IMPORTANT!!! If your insulted by "Merry Christmas"... fine who cares... say happy holidays. The majority of normal people and the majority of us christians honestly do not give a rat's. What we care about is the meaning of Christmas. And as for the concept of the Modern American Christmas? A complete reference to the stereotyped heavily commercialised politcally correct Christmas that no one wants. And as for this last line... QUOTE- And f*ck Easter too, you fertility–rite–celebrating, whiny, self-righteous, don’t–know–the– history–of–your–own–religion assholes. This guy seems really sure that us Christians hav never lost our so-called pagan traditions. Sure, we probably have ancestors that were druids and god knows what else.... Does that mean all our beliefs are based on these beginnings? Christianity is hardly based on "pagan fertiltiy rites". Last time i checked Chrsitianty started in the middle east. But hey what would i know. I'm off to sacrifice my cat... |

I say Happy Holidays to celibrate the First Day of Winter (booo), Hanukkah, Christmas, Boxing Day, Kwanzaa(I have yet to meet someone who celibrates Kwanzaa..) and New Year's Eve. It make a lot more sense to say Happy Holidays insteed of saying "Have a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, have a great Boxing Day, and a Happy New Year." Then again the holidays don't matter since it's all about commericalism.
