Is the Personal Learning Edition of Maya any good for modeling for Half-Life 2?

Any other good free modeling programs would be good too, thanks.

oh that answers my question but 1 more thing, it says that its not for commercial use, does that mean I can't use it to distribute what I make with Maya in a mod??

Also, I have tried using XSI, but it works for a few days then when I start it up, it gives me an error saying "Unable to initialize cross thread notifier" and "Failed to save sequence after system failure" then program crashes, thats why I had to look for an alternate 3d modelling program.

By commercial use, I think that means you can't use it for games that you are selling. Example: I can't make a model and then put it in a game and sell the game.

You can use it for mods.

Also, you should post the XSI problem in the tech. support section. Then more experts will be able to answer.

I've checked the XSI forums, it appears that those errors ARE EXTREMELY COMMON and yet they've never been answered. All the threads I checked about that issue, NONE of them have been resolved.

That's truly free (no personal info send-in shit) and GPL, and you can make models for commercial use. (And yes, it was also used for Spiderman 2 at one point, that's commercial is it not)

i just dl'ed that. I'm going to play around with it a bit. I'm fairly new towards modeling, I just started learning so I was hoping I could get a 3D modeling program and stick with it cause I started off with XSI, it stopped workin, went to Maya, and now testin out blender.

Whats the difference between XSI EXP for HL2 and XSI Mod Tool?

I recently tried a wonderful program called 3D Canvas and it was easy and effective. I can't use it on this computer any more though because it crashes now every time i drag something on the screen.
