Yes another WWII mod lol – hey at least us buffs are going to get our fix over the next few years! On with the post…

Marching in the Shadow of the Reaper or MSR (tentative name) is a moderately realistic shooter based on the Italian front during WWII. Our ambition is to bring the intensity, chaos, horror and comradeship of the war into the multiplayer arena, like never experienced before in a WWII FPS. We are currently in the early concept stages of the mod and are looking for dedicated and skilled members to join the team, especially an experienced coder. We are also looking for members to help out in the non-technical department such as research on the locations, uniforms, landscapes, mid-century Italian buildings and a weapons expert.

Please contact me directly via offworld85@hotmail.com (MSN/E-mail) if you are interested. Thank you for your reading this post.

Yeah I’ll admit it may seem unoriginal to the superficial thinker, but you have to keep in mind the era and setting are prefect for FPSs. Also Italy will be a much different experience from the traditional ETO, simply due to the diversity in the landscape alone, and it won’t be as static and restrictive as the PTO.

When you post things that are completely unconstructive to the discussion it is considered spam, ironic considering your chosen avatar

Well, this is not a bash, but a simple question. Other than it's setting, what feature of this game will make it stand out above all of the several hundred other WWII mods and existing games out there?

First off I don’t think that you should undermine the setting so quickly, as it is a key component to the game. Italy has many hills, rivers, streams and a unique town structure which alone will make Gameplay devise compared to the traditional WWII shooter. I just want to show you some of the pictures of the one of our intended maps, the costal town of Ortona, to show you what I mean.

I shouldn’t be talking about the Gameplay elements at this point seeing as they are restrictive to the capabilities of our programming team and also they could be easily stolen, but seeing the disapproval and flames thus far I guess I need to justify the game by releasing some information. Our ambition is to have something similar to the traditional push maps (domination) only with more depth. We don’t want to complex Gameplay, we just want it be fun and straight forward. In terms of depth though, the plan is to have a zone system. So instead of a team simply defending/capturing a flag the team will have to defend/capture an entire zone (radius pending). Not only will this be much more realistic, it will add a productive layer of depth to a familiar concept. Many other new ideas are in store for this mod, but this isn’t the right to be spilling all the guts of our mod.

It really is just another WWII mod. How can you expect people to get interested if they don't know any of the features of the game?

Looks just like any other WWII scenery you would see: morbid.

They don't resemble Italy at all, that's your problem. They look exactly like most media coverage of WWII - black and white photos of soldiers in barren landscape.

but tbh i don't think anyone cares about the setting, can this mod offer anything different to the ww2 scene as far as GAMEPLAY is concerned?

Jan 23 2005 Anchor

Well that will depend on the coder... But yes on paper it will. But keep in mind we don't plan on raping good ideas from past games we want to bulid on them and add some of your own.

Sounds like a perfect translation to me.
