Please excuse the bump, but we have new media to show. In the time since my first post, we have finished a lot on the project. Functionally most of the game has been implemented. We also have acquired legal permission to create this remake from the trademark owner, provided it remains a free game. We're still hoping to find some help in the areas of environment art, character animation (3DS Max) and sequencer. Please message me if you're interested in helping out!


Hello! This is a modern remake of the 1996 advergame “Chex Quest”, which was distributed in Chex cereal boxes. I am one of the original developers of that game and also the individual that created a sequel in 2008. The original Chex Quest was a G-rated Doom 2 total conversion and the 2008 sequel, Chex Quest 3, was built in ZDoom. Chex Quest HD, like the original, will be a five-mission single player FPS that borrows heavily from Doom gameplay. I have started building this remake in Unreal 4, starting with the FPS template and following numerous tutorials. However it is clear I will need some help if this is ever to get completed. The scope is not excessive, but still too much for one person’s hobby. I have a volunteer helping me remaster the audio and music. The biggest areas where this project could use assistance would be in the areas of blueprint programming, level design and environment art. I have submitted a business proposal to General Mills (the IP owner) about financially supporting this remake and distributing it as they did the original, but they so far they have not responded. So payment of any sort is unfortunately a long shot.

I am veteran game industry artist, having shipping 15+ titles over the last two decades. I will personally be generating a vast majority of the art for this project. Here’s what I have completed so far: One level is blocked out and has some final art; one weapon has been implemented with FPS arms, mesh, animations and PFX; two enemies have been implemented w/ basic AI, meshes, animations and PFX; HUD has been implemented with about 50% functionality; main menu implemented with minimal functionality. I’ve also completed quite a bit of concept art that could be passed off to a potential artist and/or level designer for creation. Here are the first two pictures of my WiP:
