There is lot of useful tutorials in youtube, then just trial and error. That is how I learned what I can do now. Still improving though.

If you want I could help, although Im not exactly the king of source. the valve wiki developer.valvesoftware.com really has taught me everything i know. Check it out if you havent already.

Are you stuck technically? If not then you will want to check references outside of the game world.

Say you want to do an industrial level, try going to flickr and looking up industrial references. If you are just starting, don't hesitate to copy it as well as you can. After doing that a few times, detailing and design tricks start to show themselves to you and become part of your toolbelt :)
