Hey guys,

I've been craving a good RPG a lot lately, but don't know much about them. Basically, I'm looking for a PC RPG, no matter how old, that focuses on (or at least has plenty of good features for) wizards, mages, sorcerers, or other arcane beings. I don't care if it's 2D or 3D. All that really matters to me is that it's fun, with plenty of quests, has good spells/weapons, and is immersive. So far I've only tried "Icewind Dale 2", which had too many bugs to be fun. I'll try the patch, but something about it told me that theirs got to be a better RPG out there. Everyone is still talking about the Diablo series, so I'll probably try one of those out as well.

Any other ideas?

That game looks pretty good, but I was thinking more of a traditional fantasy RPG; you know, with dragons and the like.

Ragnarok Online. If you like anime, you're sure to love this :D It has a 15-day free trial, but you can find free servers around the Internet (search on Google for "Aero Ragnarok Online")

Now that's what I'm talking about! Looks awesome. I'm signing up now. Are their magic spells though?

Of course there are. The Bards have several different music songs that play some awesome music in the background with different effects. The wizards have some amazing spells. Their "Vermillion" spell shots down asteroids from the sky and envelop huge amounts of damage. There's a lot of fun classes to play as well :D You'll love it.

Knights of the old republic

Ignore the fact it's star wars, it's the best RPG out there, I don't like star wars, I love kotor.

Other than that, if you really want D&D based then neverwinter nights is the best d&d based RPG by a long long way. (uses 3rd edition rules and is extremely faithful to them)

the might and magic series are good too, tho I'd stick to 7 or later so it's not *too* ugly.

Yeah, I've played Morrowind quite a bit. It's an excellent game, but isn't really what I'm after. What I really want is a classic style RPG: not an action RPG, not a FPSRPG, just a plain old RPG. I'm gonna buy Diablo II tomorrow, I think. I'll also give Heroes of Might and Magic IV a try when I get some more cash..

Anything and everything by Spiderweb Software. I've never played better CRPGs.

most RPGs are still sold/stocked by a certain website selling all the classic ones so aren't available to download as abandonware sadly ;( (tho good you can still buy em in a way, despite the developers all having moved on since etc)

Nethack is aweosme, but its a tad bit too oldschool. I'll search Abandonware for some good ones..

Korean or English? I only play Korean MMORPGs; I feel they are better :/ Not only that, I prefere reading Korean over English.

If you are ready to consider MMORPG, I would say EQ2 or even WoW (all the rage these days).
I am personally hooked on EQ2 (See my two Xfire profiles below)

that s a good idea, Karuto: more generally, all the recent MMORPG come with a free 10-day full game trial that you can give to a friend.
That could be the best way for you to figure out which one you prefer the best and want to commit to.

I was in the last beta of World of Warcraft, and loved it to death. I can't stand monthly subscriptions though, so I don't think MMORPGs are my thing. After Guild Wars is released, I wouldn't be surprised if several other developers jump onto the no-monthly-subscription-fee-for-a-MMORPG bandwagon, which would be good news for people like me.

Here's what I've decided: I'll get Diablo II from a friend, buy Heroes of Might and Magic today or tomorrow, and wish Baldurs Gate II for Christmas.
