Jihad Thread

This is an idea i had for my mod a while back and have done a lil bit of work on it here and there... I wanted to know wot you all think of it...

It is a team deathmatch mod, and when you join a game playing it, you will pick your team, blue or red... I picked these to colors because they are simple, and prolly most known and used for team dm... The blue team is the good aligned team, and red is evil.. Also when the server starts, there will be 2 artifacts that will spawn in the teams temple... The temple will just be the base more or less for that team... It will be part of the jihad maps i will have to get made as well..

When a player touches the artifact, he will become the god of that alignment.. If an player touches the enemy's artifact though, nothing will happen.. When you change into the good or evil god, you will be given a new model, and all new attacks.. The gods will have massive resistances and great amounts of health.. The health will be displaced as a percentage of its max health instead of the exact number, in order to reduce the bugs of health when it gets too high... The gods are going to be extremely powerful, and very fun to work with, but difficult to kill.. If anyone has played purge before, it is like that, only both teams will have a deity, and a much more powerful one at that... There will be no need to remain in a spot, and no ammo.. The only drawback to weapons is the casting time...

The best thing of jihad will be the effects.. this is were i am going to have the most effects out of my entire mod.. When you get the arifact there will be lights and particles and flames and all that and everything.. same as when you die.. If you want to see some nice flashy looks to something, then this is definatly for you.. However, im not going to be bias on this either.. Maybe you want to play jihad, just without so many damn effects.. Then you can use the cvar im going to have, jq_performance, wich controls about everytyhing.... 4 is defult, and max level... 0 is just about nothing going on at all..

The god will also have some special things.. they will regen health for one... Also, i have thought of something to give the evil god, but i still need to think of something to give the good god to balance it out... The evil god will have 4 white tendrils that wave around at his feet... they will just be an extension of a very large white aura the evil god will have.. they will wave around aimlessly, and snap and whip in different directions, and seemingly do nothing... but if they touch a corpse or gib, or any peice of dead tissue, they will absorb it and restore some life to the evil god.. Now i need something to balance this out for the good god... Any suggestions?

One more thing on this is, you may have noticed that i pointed out an alignment in my classes... 3 are good, 3 are evil, and 1 is neutral... The neutral is the soldier, the mage, android, and knight are good, the shadow lord, assassin, and priest are evil.. Then evil team can be all 3 evil or the soldier.. the good can be any 3 of the good, or the soldier as well... Both teams will share the soldier...

i like the idea... you would need sexy player models and skins and this would work..

Good idea but wouldn't it be kinda hard to kill a god unless you were one too.
Don't get me wrong it sounds like a great mod but it sounds like if you weren't a god you would just fight and get killed quick.

Not really.... well, kinda.. one on one to the god, your no match... but 3 people could take one down sure... Then evil side, they have shadowlords.. Shadowlords can do a lot of damage, and they can GREATLY increase their damage by one of their specials, Dark Focus... And the good team, they god the knight whose specials buff the team, and the mage who does the most flat out damage in any class... so really, its all reasonable..

As for skins... well, i want them to look MUCH like the player skin... infact, they will look just about completly human, except for a few differences in the skin that other players don't have... Well, at least for the good god.. i have made the evil god skin, but it needs redone.. It looks exactly like the player skin, but his skin and clothing are white, and he has blood streaking from his mouth down his chest, and up his arms..

Oh ok i was think that the god could just mow regular people down.

don't make the god too powerful, make it like even 3 or 4 people can take one down

im talking ns/cs qaulity skins..models would need to be sexy to.

This would take you a yr to make with the right team

Hm.. well remember, i AM working with the quake 1 modl crap res skins, and limited expierence, so really, don't expect TOO much from me on the models..

And yes, about 3 or 4 ppl should be able to take the god out.. Of cource, that IS only if they use good teamwork.. This is a team effort.. you can't just hope to run in by yourself and wipe the god off, just not really gonna happen... And actaully, if the god player knows wot he is doin, then he may very well mow ya all down.. But i will keep it reasonable..

Now wot i really need here is some help on ideas... Mainly for specials and balances... Like, the evil god absorbs dead tissues for life.. What can the good god get to balance this??

how many gods can there be at the same time?

2... one for evil, one for good.. as stated, the artifact will first appear in the teams temple... then when the god dies, the atrifact will appear at the site of the gods death... If the artifact is not picked up after 3 minutes, it will then reapear in the temple...

Alrighty... 2 definitions for it.. First was a muslim holy war against infidels... Well, now, thats NOT wot i want, so lets look at number 2... A crusade or struggle... Well, now that will work just fine i think..

You see, most people have never heard of the word jihad til september 11th... But i had this idea made and named before that... So just cause those assholes then really start throwing the word around and make everyone hear of it, im nmot gonna change my name on it... It really works well, and i think it will stay...

You learned "Jihad" after I mentioned "Fileplanet Jihad" months earlier, you're like "OOH THATS A COOL OWRD! CHEAPALERT IS GENIOUS" and you thought Fileplanet and Edgefiles were two god.

Well, ive had this idea for quite a while.. its just a lil attachment to my mod already working on... Im not going to trash this idea cause of it...

And cheap, what the hell are you talking about?! I had this idea LONG before i knew who the hell you were! Actaully, this idea was orginally inspired by the quakeworld version of fvf, which had a multiplayer m,ode called jihad where both teams had a diety! So this idea has been done, even under the same name, im just making it different in my own views...

So far, by definition, jihad is the best word for this.. If you can think of something better, i'll take it...

while you did use it then i first learned it from the history channel 3 years ago, which i am willing to bet was before your post

I myself learned about it id say, 3 years ago as well, in the QW fvf like i said.. Then a while later, i was curious on the word, so i looked it up.. The dictionary said "A campaign between religions." Then not too long later, i figured that a multiplayer setup like jihad in fvf would be really fun for my mod... And, the word jihad would be the right one for it to, for it describes just what it is...

But hey, if you all don't like the title, give me a new one.. If others agree on it, and its serious, i will GLADLY change to it... I have no problem with changing to the ways of the public..

the name is okay, i just like correcting people

Some might question the origin of the word anyway...

ha, i knew what jihad meant before all j00z!!! first found it in the book dune, and i read that like 6 years ago the first time

a jihad is a holy war/crusade in all definitions ive ever heard of

same here... so really, it fits perfectly
