Hey a half-life1 image taken from the moddb game page.. but what's that in the corner? ENHANCE

User Posted Image

Is it just me, or does that look like someone tried to blur out a watermark? Judging by the ring shaped blur, and the triangleish blur near the top, I'd guess IGN.

My guess: a staff member was searching for images to put in the HL1 ModDB profile, and, while browsing through Google images, they stumbled upon this image which someone else had removed the watermark from previously.

No one really cares you're the "fistful of frags lead tester" either, but how about we don't get into a flame war about it. Stealing has never been right and it's a simple fix.

Thanks for pointing that out - we have a strong anti-copyright policy for mods and ourselves, so that was clearly an accident. Because much of the content is user-submitted it is hard to keep tabs on everything but we do our best.

watermarking a developer/publisher's official promotional material is in really poor taste. i don't know why websites do it. judging by the shape of the watermark, it was IGN or something? since when do they have copyrights over one of valve or sierra or vivendi or whoever owns that kind of thing's stuff.

I'm torn on this issue. On the one hand, I do agree with what you're saying. On the other hand, sites like IGN provide a lot of bandwidth for promoting games, and is one little logo in the corner such a terrible exchange for all that hosting?

Mod DB used to watermark content, however in v4 I decided to remove it, since too often I found the watermarks interfered with key HUD content.

Whilst I'm sure it has lead to an increase in hotlinking (and less referrals) - I felt that was the best for the community, and retaining the integrity of the images is important.

Very noble of you :) I'd be understanding if you called it the other way though, as hotlinking is cheap and underhand. Bloody freeloaders :(

Hi Leonardo-DiVinci,

I've checked our media processing queue and can't find your video anywhere. Can you provide me with a direct link to it?

I have already looked into the issue - also jacko the best way to find stuff is to jump to the members profile, view their mods and find the videos from there.

You can find everything via a members profile since profiles are the "control panels" these days.

Videos that users upload aren't always tied to their profiles. Mine aren't.

I know - videos are only related to the profile you upload them too. So what I do is goto a members profile, then from their profile goto their groups / mods to find the video :)
