I don't currently have Hammer, since I don't have a HL-based game to map for, but I have a couple of questions for whoever does, and/or knows about changes in the new (HL2) version. 1) Does the current - or upcoming - version of Hammer support any kind of plugins; ie. the ability to use a script to create or modify various structures. 2) What kind of objects can be created automatically through Hammer; will it generate geometry for cylinders / spheres / tubes / whatever? What can it actually do in that regard? 3) Can you import/export any common formats, eg. the ability to create some geometry in 3DSMAX then import it? Thanks! -jEFF - Edited By PsychoBrat On Sat 10th, Jul 2004 @ 1:26:08am -- modDB▪GuyTypeThing |

in the released versions of hamer you can export to a .dxf to model with, but it usually comes out cruddy because its such a old format. you should try it |

The .dxf export is mainly only used for animating scientists/hgrunts/barneys in 3dsmax so they can fit the custom scripted sequence animations right into the map for consistency. Hl2 I bet would use alot of that

.dxf comes out really bad when put in a model editor due to it being too outdated. since hl2 will have alot more 'model based' geometry in game im supposing it will give a much more useful format to create in. |

That's because ms3d sucks and 3dsmax was their platform then, all they needed is the basic flat geometry anyway, not the texturing -- < insert subject games here >

i opened it in studiomdx, qme, ms3d, q2mdlr, and anim8tor. they suck in all forms. its because its a dated extension, back when cad used it originally. architectural usage, not high poly mapping/modelling. it looked like more of a thing of show. |
