Half-Life Mod: Iraqi Freedom Thread

I'm a fan of Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Americas Army and I've gotten an idea to make a mod based on the present war in Iraq with all the weapons that are used. My idea was to make it similar to the way Day of Defeat is set up with classes, but using modern weapons. One could argue that Counter-Strike offers common weapons, but I don't think it includes enough of the weapons actually used by soldiers. That's why I bring Americas Army up. It features the modern weapons used by soldiers. Some ideas for weapons are:

Allies

M16-A2, M4, M-24, MP5, M-249, M9...

Terrorists

AK-47, AK-74, DRAGUNOV, Uzi, RPK...

Of course I don't know much C++ although I'm taking a course this year on it. That's why I'm not gonna be able to make this a reality unless an experienced person is interested. I'll be willing to learn though if someone could point me to a site that will tell me what I need to know to code a mod. Well anyway, I just thought I should throw this idea out.

Oh no, we don't need another realistic military shooter. Not to shoot down your dreams with an AWP though, but there are SO many mods out there like this. I say it's okay, but only if no one else has chosen this theater of combat.

I was expecting reactions like yours. There aren't mods like this. That's why I want to make it.

naw, the weapons are just to cominly used its unbileavable.. i do believe the weapons can be used again, but its gotta be a dammed original idea.. DYAMED!

The gamepaly would be same-ol', thats the point. Also, a subject like this is pretty much tasteless to me.

MAKE A MEDIEVIL WAR GAME OR WW1/2 THERE ARENT ENOUGH OF THEM IN 'MOD' FORM ONLY FULL GAMES .:wispered muttering:.

I really dont think there is much you can do with an Iraqi mod. The concept seems a bit cliched.... military/terrorist style.... Plus, I don't think too many people are going to be willing to jump on board the band wagon...especially with the whole situation of the loss of faith in the American government.

Also..there really isnt/wasnt a war....the actual Iraqi war didnt last very long. More people have been killed post war then during the operation. Also, they have no real objectives there right now....just wait and hope that Saddam pops up (which he wont)

You could try to making the mod based on Post War Iraq and America's current situation.

Here is the pitch:

The American's start off sitting in bunkers but they cant go anywhere until someone starts shooting at them.

And then...there can be a money system...like...a meter at the top of the screen. Every time someone dies the money goes down..same when they pick weapons or respawn...and it the American's job to kill all the Iraqi people before their money runs out.

Also..there can be a slot machine like think that pops up....and little flags go around in it. If it stops on 3 of a kinda...the americans get more money.

It is kinda hard to make a serious mod based on a fictisious war...but you can go for it if want.

not sure if its the best idea because of what's going on now, and there are SO many war mods...although it is an original idea, i don't know how special it would be compared to the others out there...i'd say you need to add some twists to it to make it successful! just my opinion though

Well there is "Seasons", which focus on seasonal activities other than holidays.

Go Medievil styles man with like the first gunpowder weapons and catapults with like bow's actually there is a good bow in . . . wanted that HL thing based in the west but yea go Medievil !!!

yeah, I could try that, but I'm not exactly a great fan of medievel weaponry. I basically got the idea because it's the type of mod that I want to play but it doesn't exist.
