Earlier today (Australian time), The Office of Film and Literature Classification finally rated Half-Life 2 as MA 15 + for "High Level Animated Violence". This resolves any possible concern for the game being banned over there.

Yeah, it was practically a snowball's chance in hell of it being banned, but there were issues they might've just removed. I don't know exactly what those were, but if they had been under consideration such as that, then there must've been something there.

I said once, I said twice, I said it thrice, and I even wrote a short best-selling novel about it. Half-Life 2 was never going to be banned in Australia.
