Guest Commenting? Thread

Remember a while ago when the modDB had guest commenting and how it caused some problems, yet overall I thought it was great...?

The problems arose because guests anoymously posted crap in modifications profiles. That was the only place it occured. Around the site, people were posting constructive feedback to features, polls etc... so what I am thinking of doing is allowing guests to post anywhere but mod related pages...

What do you think? I reckon it be great, and given the odd 'bad post' i figure admins are pretty good to scour the site now and delete the puppy

I agree, if the privileges were left out of mod profiles and such, kept strictly to the site, forum, news center, etc. then it would be cool.

Nah, i dunno about forum guest posting, gotta be a member to post in the forums, but like in features / news espically i reckon it be great to allow guest posting... i mean you can hardly abuse it there anyhow

quests for polls and news but the rest members..thats the goal of the site

Guest commenting is now enabled..

ONLY at FEATURES | POLLS AND NEWS.... i am starting a poll also, to see how people react.. personally I think it will be a positive for the site but we shall have to wait and see, good ole guest is BACK eeek

Cool. Yeah I guess I didn't really think about how there shouldn't be guests at the forum. You picked the best privileges for the guests.

Maybe you should make it so if you're posting as a Guest, you still have to give a name to be shown on the post... Like this:

Your Name: ___________

Post: ________________
_____________________
_____________________

And when it is submitted, the name is attached to the top of the post or something. So people aren't going completely anonymous.

I guess this would only be for commenting on features though, so disregard this post

Nah that'd lead to people pretending to be others...Cool though, can only encourage posting

It was bad when you could allow guests to post at forums, cos people from competing mods would mock them, but if they are posting at news, sure they can still mock, but damage is limiting and I am sure any admin would be ontop and deleting such a post immediatly

Yeah the staffers could take care of any news spam that was posted. Sounds good.
