Hello, and thanks ahead of time. I recently found my old doom games while cleaning the attic a few days ago, and I just had to play them, so I installed them but they would not allow me to play; a message saying "The program can't start because DPLAY.dII us missing from your computer." I am not good at all with computers, and at that point I had no idea what to do, so that is why I am asking for help, if I am understanding the message correctly all I need is to get DPLAY.dII for doom to work, but I don't know how to do that. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Vladimir. P.S. If doom will work again I would like to get the Brutal Doom mod on there, how would I go about doing that? Also, I don't know if it would make any difference, but the dooms I am trying to install are the Final Doom, The Ultimate Doom, and Doom 2. |

I'm guessing you're trying Doom95. You need a more modern Doom engine. Since you're interested in Brutal Doom, you need the Brutal Doom files: Moddb.com and a modern Doom engine: Gzdoom.drdteam.org You can just install those to any folder you want (same folder) & copy your Doom/Doom2/Plutonia/TNT wad's to the same folder. Running GZDoom.exe will give you the choice of what game you want to play from all 4. To play Brutal Doom, drag/drop the "brtualv20.pk3" file to the GZDoom.exe file in Explore and it will apply that to the Doom game you choose to play. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

I did that, and now it is telling me OS: Windows NT (NT 10.0) Build 14393 or if I click on the short cuts for doom itself it tells me Doom 95 was unable to access the video card- Check your direct x installation. If it isn't one thing its another, hopefully you will know what I can do, thanks for getting me this far. |

gzdoom.pk3 is included with gzdoom. you must not of unzipped all of the contents. I'd say just delete doom.exe/doom2.exe/doom95.exe. They don't work any more. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

Ok, I will try that. I did not find doom.exe or the others, I guess they weren't on my computer in the first place, but I deleted DPLAY. I unzipped the contents and now this is what it is telling me: OS: Windows NT (NT 10.0) Build 14393 Also it says Final Doom Plutonia Experiment at the top of the window. So I guess I need Open GL now? Either way it seems like progress is being made and I thank you for that. or if I click on the shortcut for gzdoom, and don't go into the folder to open it, it still tells me OS: Windows NT (NT 10.0) Build 14393 Turns out I did not unzip, not sure what I did, but I went back and unzipped again and now doom works. I cant get Brutal doom to work though, I did what you said and a message poped up saying: Script error, "brutalv20b.pk3:blood.txt" line 610: Any ideas on that? |
