Is it a rumour or what? Will HL2 really come to fruition and over take HL as the most modded game? Will it come with a new engine that will easily surpass the great brand spanking new engine of Unreal Tounament 2003? What do you think? Personally I believe that if HL2 does actually come out, Vavle will have done so much new work on player phyics, particles and graphics engines that the HL2 engine will surpass any other released game, and will send gamers into an awe of appreciation. -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

Halflife 2 will of course come out.. it may not be announced but I don't care how much they may deny it and the fact that it may take a few years, any game where the previous one was a winner will of course get a sequal.. gotta cash in on the sucess. As for creating it on a uber new engine.. that i strongly doubt. Why? Well Halflife was built on the Quake 1 engine despite there being far superiour engines out at the time, why would they change this and suddenly develop their own engine when they could just licence out and enhance a tested and reliable one already released? Thats my take anyhow -- Scott Reismanis |

Valid argument, but Valve have made a basically new engine for Counter-Strike Condition Zero, so what is stopping Valve from further developing the new engine into a new modding monster upon which Half-Life 2 will be centered. -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

I have not really been following CS: CZ closely but i did not realise it was a new engine at all? I guess the only thing stopping them is a lil talent.. i mean whatever happened to Team Fortress 2? They just milking HL / CS / DOD for all they are worth and delaying the release or are they just really struggling at putting togethor a compeling game engine... I mean there is already an amazing Doom III playable Alpha out, be it an illegal copy is still proves what ID and John Carmack are capable of, i cannot imagine Valve eclipsing their efforts! -- Scott Reismanis |

I haven't seen anything apart from 2 or 3 screen shots of Doom III but i beleive it has anawesome graphics engine. I suppose we will all have to wait and see what Valve will come up with for CS:CZ and base our assumptions of HL2 on being marginally improoved up9on CS:CZ -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

there have been some rumours about the SP story of HL2. you still play Gordon Freeman, but you're employed by the G-Man and you're sent out to different parts of the world to check out paranormal activities...with guns and a female sidekick you can control. sounds alot like x-files to me, they're probably not true though...thank god -- "T'was brillig, and the slivy toves |

CS:CZ does NOT have a new engine. I remember seeing it on display one day, CT walks over bridge, bridge falls, and then it crashed the game "sentence error". Behind the crash box was the old Half-Life interface. Plus it crashed into a 1024x768 desktop so it still contains Half-Life's dreadful bugs. -- < insert subject games here >

Will be using the Doom 3 engine I think, probably about 4years I'd guess - they want it be massive. -- Why wont it save me? |

Really? I was sure I read someting about a new engine, although you have seen ti crash first hand with the good old Half-Life traits so I suppose your are correct.
Well HL2 will not be as cross poota speed as it is at present. What is the minimum cpu for HL like 250mhz or something? HL2 will prolly be something like 1.2ghz with the Doom III engine and textures and crap clogging up the ramand slowing the gameplay... -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

by the time its released ram and processors wont get clogged easily, hardware rates speed up. Also notable is that CS:CZ uses a modified HL engine that adds news effects and more entities, stuff like that. They also promised that they'd code a new GUI for the engine, so no more losing sound when the game closes OR no bugs in the userface. -- Why wont it save me? |

So it's like a s00ped up version of sdk 2.3 then Still same old half-life though, it's like a copy of the bible with all fluro colours on it... same book, different cover -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

Go look at Nightfire. Not much has changed with the engine, just Ogg Vorbis support and Cubemapping. That's it. -- < insert subject games here >

Why advance so much tho? is it needed, not that many people have PC's that could run doom, companies still need to capture a massive slow upgrading community aswell as souped up pc people. -- Why wont it save me? |

Valve's job isn't to create an engine far superior to all others, their job is to take an ID engine and boost it to superiority. And for the books I have never heard of CS:CZ or that Night-something game. --

i could swear to hearing that CS CZ will maintain the same engine so that people with regualr CS can play with others that have CS CZ.. why do you think they have the new patch coming out with new weapons. those were the weapons that were supposed to be exclusive to CS CZ and they will be coming out for regualr CS. So there will be no difference between CZ and regualr CS besides the singleplayer campaign for CS CZ -- Sachmo The Wang and me are property of modDB© Dead Aim Clear Score: 41mins 16secs beat that biaotch!! |

CS:cz and CS will merge, accept people who brought CS:cz will see diffrent models and sprite effects, buying cz literally updates the CS / HL engine...although there was rumours that they'd make CS:classic and CZ would be able to play on exclusive maps. One big mess if you ask me. -- Why wont it save me? |

I do not think they will ever come out with a new Half-Life game. With all the current mods, why not just keep developing expansions instead of wasting your time making a new engine which will probably feel the same anyway? That's just my two cents. --

They should license Unreal Warfare engine or Serious engine for their games from now on. The Half-Life engine (aka Quake engine) is inferior in every way. -- < insert subject games here >

condition zero does not have a new engine, is based on the HL(CS) one, and it will be avaliable via download, updating older versions of CS, it cannot be a new engine speaking of CZ, what the hell happened to it? it sorta disappeared months ago and on the topic of engines, anyone tried the mafia demo? this game simply ROCKS, the shadows are casted according to light direction, and disappear as u get further away from the source of light, the game physics are just great, u can punch(rather unrealistic, but fun)a car way out of shape, when u shoot at boxes, they'll move according to where the bullets hit, and will tip over if u hit certain areas, exploding cars have flying debris, and they fly all over the place, realistic stuff sorry that this is OT, u can choose to ignore it - Edited By Godwin On Fri 15th, Nov 2002 @ 4:31:24am |

Hmm, is CS: CZ just an updated CS game one can download? I thought it was a separete commercial game. Then again you can apparently play CS: CZ with standard CS players online, which means it cannot be any different? -- Scott Reismanis |
