Firts time for Half Life Thread

I just got Half-Life 1, for the first time. It really is a nice game, despite being based on the quake2 engine...

The demo really didn't do it justice, so I never bothered paying for the real thing. It took someone to buy it for me for my birthday to bother installing and playing it.

So, what do I think? Well, its a good game, as you all know, nothing wrong with it despite the bad water textures that look like they came from quake. Anyhow, I have managed to get stuck in the Blast Pit, with no grenades and only the power on.

Anyone else never played it?

That's wrong, it's all based on Quake1.

What other way could you think of making moving water that looks/feels like water, then?

On quake1?

Well, you could get rid of the moving water texture and just have a translucent blue one, they use the water texture for small puddles on the floor.

I can't believe you've been on modDB this long and only just now played Half-Life. I still play it, it's one of my favorite shooters.

It is definitly a good game, and yes I too am nearly amazed at you just now getting the game

I've tried playing a burn of it, but it wouldn't work. I still don't have it, and more than likely never will. I won't go out and get it though, cause I'm a cheap little bastard.

No. I already said. I'm a cheap little bastard. I went out and bought UT for 8 bucks....but that's a different story...

EDIT: Besides, now there's platinum pack, and double plat pack. I'm not blowing 40 bucks on a 5 year old game to run around it as 7 different characters. i doubt you can even find the original just-the-game-and-none-of-that-other-expansion-pack-bullshit box or CD anywhere.

That's preowned. You have no idea what shape those discs are in. Although my UT was exceptionally spotless....

same here I got ut2k4 for like 13 dollars it has a sticker that says 74.49 on it

You can figure out the quality of the games on EBay from the approval ratings. If Uber meant EB Games, then they never sell used games unless they're in well-over playable quality. Used doesn't necessarily mean crap

By the way, Half-Life is a great game, but like most old games, it has only really survived because of the modding community. It's the same with a lot of other games, because they wouldn't have any replay value if they didn't have mods

Quake engine all the way baby! It's a classic.. lmao

The water textures are mainly limited because of the engine + time it came out.

They could've done procedural textures (Actually the software renderer does that, but it's only just the software renderer)

Have you already fight the chooper? It is one of the greatest parts of the game!

halflife is the greatest game EVER
it was the greatest thing back in 1998. and considering the other games out at the time, it was... i mean is monumental.

Finished the game last night, really cool! (And yes, I sat there for about 12 hours...) Now I'm going to read anything on planethalflife and play the game again, slowly.
