My most recent blog post for my game was rejected and set to "archived" status. So, instead of it being pushed out with the rest of everyone's blog posts on the main site feed, it just sits lonely in my game news section.

This is the post in question:
Indiedb.com

I received no explanation except an email telling me this:
"Thanks for sharing, please note that archived news will not be shown on the Indie DB homepage. There are many reasons why news is archived, the main ones being poor formatting, grammar, not relevant, spam, lacking images, videos, download links etc. If the news is important and you would like it to make the Indie DB homepage, follow our how to guide (Indiedb.com), fix your news formatting, add images and make the news as polished as possible (edit it here: Indiedb.com) - then reply to this email and we will re-access it."

The only posting guidelines I was able to find mentioned that these are reasons posts may be rejected:

  • spam (my post was not spam)
  • relevance (my post is entirely relevant to the state of my game)
  • poor grammar (I see no issues with my grammar)
  • poor formatting (I have nicely sized paragraphs with headings and sub-headings)
  • lacking images (there is a preview image for the post and an embedded image)

The challenge:
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to figure out why the post was rejected and archived instead of added to the site feed. The prize is a secret, but it's BIG!

All contributions will be greatly appreciated! As it stands, I'm de-motivated from devoting any further creative energy to continue updating my game dev logs. With the chance of arbitrary rejection with no explanation looming over each submission (I sent 2 emails questioning the rejection, with no response), it hardly seems worth wasting the effort that could be put into development instead. Has anyone else had similar issues? Can you share how you resolved them? Any advice welcome! I'm at a complete loss. When I compare my post to others which are pushed out through the main site feed, I see nothing lacking.

Confused. Bummed. Unimpressed.

MAYBE it was the "NOTE"
Other than that, no clue. :)

Hello, Chap

The post needs ideally 3 ingame / wip / concept images to accompany your news, the formatting also could be tweaked.
This guide here might be of some help.

Indiedb.com

Ill tweak the formatting but if you can add some fresh media to your post we can look at getting it reviewed, that's just my thoughts however, the news editor Indiedb.com would be the best person to comment on this.

Let us know when its updated, you can contact me directly at aaron@dbolical.com if you have any further issues.

I saw your entry post and I see nothing wrong with it. In fact, it looks a lot nicer than the one I did for my game, yet mine was not only featured but they helped me out by adding the trailer into the post. However, my game was complete when I submitted it so maybe that was it.

Squared55 - Good guess! 'A' for effort, but I added the 'note' after it was archived as an attempt to explain the relevance of the post. Good try. Thanks for participating, but no prize for you. Sorry. ;-p

TKAzA - Thanks for the tips! So 3 images, ok. I hadn't seen that listed anywhere as a requirement, nor is it apparently enforced with any visible consistency, but that helps! I'd say you're at the top of the running for the Big Prize (unless anything less speculative comes up)!

Toolkitz gets an honorable mention for participating in the contest. Unfortunately, no honorable mention prize was allocated. The mention is 100% honorable though.

EDIT:
Updated for a third time. Removed some of TKAzA's formatting (thanks, but I prefer left aligned headings), and old pictures (replaced with 2 new images to bring my total to 3 images!!).

Let's see how it does. Packaging the Big Prize now...

Thanks again for everyone's help.
