rip as an AVI, that is,

It doesn't matter if you own the DVDs. You'll still get in trouble, seeing as how most DVDs are covered with an FBI Warning. They don't like anyone making copies of DVDs, really :P

I can't really explain it, but you might want to make sure you're safe to do it before you actually do it.

ok you probably don't care about laws that don't really matter anyway (you can claim to have got the clips off other sites if anything did ever happen)<---not going to happen but anyway

so dvdX is what you want...btw ripping a dvd is pretty heavy duty it takes a looooooooong time

It is illegal to copy it. You can't do what you want for them since you've paid for them. When you buy them, you are given the rights to watch the movie off the original DVD for an unlimited number of times, in a private viewing environment. They cannot be copied, broadcast in a public area, etc etc. What you want to do is illegal.

No, it IS illigal if you own them or not.

There is a warning on every DVD, commercial or non commercial, that they are non to be copied or re-distributed.

Actually just like an audio cd you can make a copy for back up purposes for YOURSELF sand YOU only.

And this should be a free way to do it. But remember its only legal to make backups for YOU......

Well, if you're using it for a music video the best thing to do would be to send a written letter to the producers of the movie to ask permission to use parts of it.

Feb 15 2005 Anchor

it is illegal to copy any dvd unless you made it yourself it is even illegal to make backup copies for yourself
music is different however. thanks dvdx works great now i might need to ask for permission to use the footage
