Driving Opinions, Am I Guilty or Innocent? | Locked | |

Ever been driving ur friend or someone around and they obviously aren't paying attention, and someone leans on their horn for 30 seconds and ur friend says some smart ass line to you like "good job dude". Well this happened to me. Driving back from 7-11 I pulled out into the slow lane of a NON-BUSY, 35mph highway. When some ar-tard jumps onto me and leans on his horn for a literal 30 seconds, and then passes me. A few blocks later, the car is parked out in front of my house and it's my neighbor yelling at me for cutting him off. What really happened was, he was speeding, and changed lanes while in the intersection. As I turned, I saw him doing this. Once I got my car straightened out, and began to accelerate, he was already behind me leaning on his horn. I want to know. Was it my fault? For not noticing him, and turning. Or was it his fault, for speeding? I know, no one was hurt, but it bothers me that he actually stopped at my house to claim I cut him off and how I "almost made him hit me". Your opinions are welcomed. |

Yeah the guy sounds like a total douche. On the other hand, was it just your friend not paying attention? Funny though that you live in the US, 'cause it was my first guess lol. -- Fractals, fractals, everywhere; on the ground and in the air. |

Key Word "Speeding".. Its a tough decision but most likely it was his fault since he was speeding, but then again he probably had something important to go to. |

He changed lanes, speeding, you already initiated the turn anyway. The lane you were turning in was not his lane, therefore this is no way your fault but his. In case you would have cut in front of him if he would be in the same lane and already on the lane speed, and also already near the place, then it would be your fault. As for the speeding, it's in general his fault, as the general turn estimation was regarding the allowed speed, and that he won't speed into your lane. The closest thing I can think of in psychology to explain it is Self-Serving Bias, in which the person has a higher opinion of their skill than others do, and thus blames on external sources rather than internal. I try to avoid it, but its human nature. As to who is at fault -- as Desierdium stated, it is his fault. Your neighbor didn't even need to be in the same lane -- he merely chose to be even though he could see you ahead of time. I frankly think he deserves to have to sit for 30 seconds and have someone else blare their horn in his ear because he can't think ahead, and thus blames someone else for his idiocinricies. This is old but you can tell him it's illegal to change lanes on an intersection. But then again you guys have probably squashed it by now lol. |
