I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that it would be really awesome to see a cyberpunk style mod. And I'm talking straight up Gibson style. Maybe even throw in a few things from the RPG too. It seems like it would have so much potential. What do you think?

Yeah it would be cool, would be hard to do without making it RPG tho, so probably best to mod NWN or something, but RPGs are always a LOT of work.

I didn't necessarily mean that it should be an rpg. I meant throw in some stuff from the RPG Cyberpunk 2020. Like classes and such as that. Sort of like how TFC is, but all dark futureesqueness cool.

hmmm yeah, but even so I think RPG would most suit the theme.

I must admit. After thinking it through, it is a very complex idea. An RPG would suit it.

can you elaborate on that idea for people that have no idea what Cyberpunk is :O

Read william gibson's books, especially neuromancer.

(which I haven't done yet, I'm just starting pattern recognition tho)

Urbandictionary.com

that might help a lil bit, but it's hard to explain. (also hard to capture in a game)

Cyberpunk is a genre of book/film/whatever. It's basically in the not-so-far future. The world is a breeding ground for corporate treachery. It's world where bioware (cybernetics) is a part of everyday life. It's a world of pollution and hate and crime. But it's not a genre of fairy tales. Good things may happen, but they have no real impact on the world. The biggest example of cyberpunk would be William Gibson's Neuromancer. The term is also used as a subculture, in which all tech freaks are a part. If you want more info on cyberpunk, either the genre, ideas, or anything, check out this site, Project.cyberpunk.ru It's a russian site but it's all in english. It also has some books readable online.
Oh yeah, if you've seen Blade Runner or Johnny Mnemonic, you should have a basis for what the setting in cyberpunk is like.

Well, there is a cyberpunk mod coming out for HL2 (although I haven't heard from it for a while) called Corporate Anarchy: www.corporateanarchy.net

Have a look at that :)

While CA definitely looks like a cyberpunk-esque mod, it's not really the full cyberpunk experience. Cyberpunk technology not only allows people to "jack-in" to cyberspace, it adds weapons built into your body, boosts reflexes, so on. Also, the military(government) seems to play a big role in that game, which isn't so in true cyberpunk. Also, cyberpunk puts more emphasis on the "cyberpunk" character themselves, which is why this would be a good RPG. While corporates and such are there, cyberpunk focuses more on those who are in the lower end of the food chain. Not to be critical on this mod, it does look really good(although i don't like the title, seems like an oxymoron to me) and it seems they've put a lot of work into it. I would love to see it come out.

Well, if you want that, declinson, go play Matrix Online. For everyone else who already owns a copy of Half-Life 2 or plan on doing so and wishes to help the Cyberpunk modding community, try out CA or any other games such as that.

I don't think you fully understand what I meant. Matrix is in truth, nothing like what i'm looking for. The boosted reflexes, strenth, and built in weapons are all due to the technology implanted into the body. And to tell you the truth, I'm probably going to buy HL2 just to try out CA, I just don't think it's as cyberpunk as I'm looking for. But much thanks for telling me about it.
