Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section but i am planning on making a Stargate Mod, The engine i know the most about is CryEngine. But the problem i am having is deciding whether to use the CryEngine 2 or CryEngine 3 engine. Both are great but in my opinion CryEngine 3 looks more realistic, However there are limited props and textures included. I know i will have to make several models as it is a Stargate mod but, i have very little to start off with

Any advice will be much appreciated

IceMan

Thanks for nothing. Doesnt matter now ive decided what i will use. I will no longer ask on this website for help as it is like asking my arse

For a mod or for an indie game? IMHO, CryENGINE 2 is the most advanced & nifty engine overall and most suited for mods, and well, there's no other option than CryENGINE 3 for indie games. (Though it'd be nice to see a free SDK of CE2.)

I think someone is mistaking the CryEngine SDK with the Crysis mod SDK.
In the mod SDK's you have access to the asserts from the Crysis games. When you use Crysis, you'll have the CE2. When you use Crysis 2, you'll have the CE3. You can use the textures, models, etc. However, it'll be a Crysis/Crysis 2 mod then. People will need the games then in order to play.
The CryEngine 3 SDK is free. You and your players won't need to purchase anything in order to play. On the other hand you have (almost) no asserts. You do need to make them yourself. There are plently available for free on crydev.net

That being said, the CryEngine 3 is the way to go. It's more advanced. The poster above me has mistaken the CryEngine with Crysis. Crysis 2 was hold back by the limitations of consoles. You don't target them and therefore don't need to give a crap.

By "CryENGINE 2" meant both Crysis & Crysis Wars tools/SDK plus assets from Warhead, IMHO, for mods it's more suitable than "trimmed" Crysis 2 and its mod tools. Crysis is gameplay-wise (code etc) more polished, too. (Unless he's planning to make an indie, which can use all the engine goodies of CE3 but hardly any assets from Crysis 2 as you mentioned.)
