im here complaining cause of the underdoing amount of news updates on the main page regarding mods and stuff

i know Half life and half life 2 are a few of the most modded games around, but what if a newcomer who h8s Halflife(dunno why) comes and sees the modDB v2 homepage, and sees only Half Life/hl2 mods, hes sure to get bad indeas about modDB.

my suggestion to avoid unnesesary loss of new members is as follows: reduce the demands on updates, be more allowing.
post more updates for other mods and games, or better yet, reduce the amount of HL/HL2 mod updates

No, its up to the other mod teams for other games who post the news to do so. I don't see how you can get bad idea's just because there's more news for a certain game than another. Reducing the amount of HL/HL2 news is unfair on those mod teams.

Hang tight, INtense is still working on features for v2.

We don't make the news posts. Mod leaders submit their own news. We only make news posts if it's in regard to major event or occurance external of modDB (ie. release of a particularly large mod, or game)

im running 6 mods at the moment, and 4 of them are registered at modDB, and i have tryd to post important updates for all of them, but nn of them got allowed.

and im not planning on registering the other two if this keeps on going on like this, cause its just not fair to ALL THE OTHER MODS

more mods are trying to submit news, but nobody knows cause non of the posts are allowed

We authenticate practically every post which is up to standards. If your post is too short, has too many spelling and gramatical errors or is not relevant, it won't be authed. We do not discriminate against mods on the basis of what engine they are be built on.

Just take some time to write your news and show it to some couple people before posting. Don't rush the news writing. Take a close look to what other people have wrote to the main page, so you'll get the idea what kind of news gets on to the main page. Eventually you'll get your news showing up for more people.

I have looked at the news posts for one of your mods, and they are too short, and need some grammer/spelling fix ups on them.

If you look next to your news posts, it tells you exactly what is necessary in order to have your news show up on the front page. Don't assume that Moddb only smiles upon HL/HL2 mods, because that is completely false. Of course, there's a hell of a lot more of them than other mods, but that's a different story :P

deaftrapx: read the comments on your news posts by shortcutman. while moddb doesnt discriminate against mods based on engine, we also dont want to have news on the front page that doesnt look professional. just type your news post up in word, and make sure you have something substantial there, not just 2 or 3 sentences. if you do all of that, you should be fine.

I know when I first came here, looking for a replacement for my beloved and gradually defunct UT Modsquad, I quickly discarded ModDB as "oh, just another Half-Life mod site".

Now, to be clear: I have nothing against Half-Life. I just find that CS has constructed a mod community that I'm not very fond of. I don't like CS, and it seems that most HL modders really, really did. Plus, UT has something others don't - non-exclusive mods. I prefer to mix'n'match my gameplay myself out of the mutator list.

Sorry about the flamebait, I'm just a little bitter about such things.

So anyways, I came here and saw a bunch've newsposts for vapourware Half-Life TC's (can't stand TCs). That turned me off pretty fast.

And as for the introduction: many sites claim to be cross-system, but aren't. I've seen many model or mapping sites that wanted to be cross-system, but ended up stuck on one game. Many people are dissillusioned with such sites. Don't be surprised when they ignore that intro.

Besides the game in question, the subject of the news is also a turn off. I'd rather hear that a small weaponmod has a new version ready download than that another TC has completed their luftwaffe officer boot knife mesh and is starting to skin it.

Edit: note, many other sites amalgamate their smaller newsposts into a quick "and elsewhere". Many small 2 line updates of several mods included in one giant newspost is easily as good as screenshots of a big mod's newest weapon mesh.

Another edit: when I came to the site, I was looking for UT mods. Saw the news, assumed that the mods covered here were all mainly Half-Life. I left (for a while) not because I didn't like Half-Life, but because I wans't looking for Half-Life mods.

If your bothered about finding news for only a particular game use the news archive search and set the game to UT or whatever you want theres plenty of news there.

the reason you see so much HL and HL2 news is because maybe theres more HL and HL2 mods ?? You ever think of that ?

well he can stay as long as he wants. I dont need you guys bashing him since he doesnt like hl or hl2. he has a right to his (one sided) opinion. I cant hold that against him. Tho he can set his news to the paticular game.

Soon you will see ut2k4.moddb.com and hl2.moddb.com so this will help

I wasnt bashing him at all I am just saying I dont think you should judge a book by its cover or judge a ModDB by its news :P

Or just more, almost irrelevant to release updates.

Hammy-bob mod's news was mostly releases, and not "NEW TWEAK TO MOAEDL!". The gallery's huge and there's barely any news about gallery editions for it. I feel "important" news to the mod is more worthy of a front page authorization instead.
