Hi, Just wondering, what do you need to do in order to compile the source code for Half-Life into game usable .dll files? -- "Well, I usually charge 5 bucks for these, but since it's YOU man... it's 10." |

Visual C++, preferably version 6 or up I think. It can be costly, but there is a command line version, but it will take a bit more to learn how to make project files and stuff, so its really only for pro's. |

Ok, thanks. I was considering the idea of doing some coding, but I don't really have the know how to do so. -- "Well, I usually charge 5 bucks for these, but since it's YOU man... it's 10." |

It's what tutorials are for. I'm sure there are some good resource sites out there - check the link database at planethalflife (http://planethalflife.com) |

So there's no way to compile to .dll's with any other compiler other than MSVC++ ?? I'm a poor student that can't afford to buy expensive software for what is at the moment a hobby :p |

lol you think people actualy buy that. And if your going to buy it and you are a student get the educational price. which is alot cheaper. -- Tour of Duty for HL2? |

You can pick up MSVC for one tenth of the cost on a student discount. There are also free compilers that are available online like LCC, but they aren't really suitable for comiling the HL source. |

The beta version of .net C++ is available from MS for free. It seems to work very well. No problems compiling W:ET source code. |

I use MSVS 7.1 .net (2003) and Visual Assist. Its all you really need. |
