Ok so I dont come to these forums often but I made a map in the past, and it took me forever. However Im a rather advance mapper now and would like to know exactly if I should use this map in an upcomming mod that shows off my ability or just recreate it with the much aquired knowledge i have now. Im gonna add the movies and the map. (Please dont steal it >,<).

Please comment on the ideas, and things that can be changed should I intend to keep this map.

Looks pretty good, Nothing much to say about it. Single player maps aren't my cup of tea. Seems to be done well and nothing to really complain about.

Alright then Ill prolly toss it in there as is, thanks for the review :)

You have good lighting, brushwork and scripted sequences, my only suggestion would be to optimize the level more, there are some pretty severe frame drops in there and large amounts of lag can kill off someones immersion very quickly.

Playing it, I didn't feel much of a sense of purpose, there's no narrative to give you a reason why you are going anywhere, but not enough action to be a Doom-style kill-everything-and exit style map (which IMHO HL2 isn't suited for anyway). Even if it's only in a readme, if the player has a background purpose it would give gameplay some direction. The world felt aritifical too, most of the buildings felt like random mish-mashes of factories, offices and homes, without convincingly looking like any one of them. basing the layouts on real-world buildings might help future maps - attention to detail makes the world feel real. As an example take the first two rooms (one of them has the crowbar) - one has a bathroom, one doesn't. Was this building a hotel or appartment block (in which case both should have bathrooms) or was it a commercial building (in which case a bathroom is very out of place).

The plus side is you clearly understand the technical skills needed to build a map, you just need more practice on the concept and design :)

Most of it is good, but the little things make it weird. For example: not all of those doors look like they can be opened, the apartment was extremely barren (they might at least put up some floral wallpaper and have a bad wood floor. Also, stall doors open out, not in. Other than that kind of thing, it looks good.

Hey thanks for the cunstructive critisizm, as for Gibberstein I tottaly agree there is no storyline, however as I said in my intro the map is just for show, no storyline intended, and Im glad you pointed out theres no layout on buildings, however the first two buldings u enter are the first two buildings I ever made. Matter of fact I think I only made one gmod map prior to this. However thank you and in the future i will make a better floor layout. As for the doors, my bad, the first bulding i didnt know how to spawn the door entities I only had brushes. A lot of learnign went into that map :) ty for the help guys, anyone else?

I've got loads if you are interested, but I won't list them unless you honestly want every last niggle I noticed. I've been on the recieving end of big lists of faults noticed in testing, and while it's for the best in the long run I know they feel like a kick in the teeth when you get them. If you're ready for that I'll post away :)

No Im serious, make me cry... (if you must) however if its concerning the first two buildings in the map I ask that you understand they are crap and I know it. so your not allowed to talk about them =P however the rest of the map is fair gain =D
