Cap Troopers
Premise
Cap Troopers will be a game that requires players to work as a team to capture and defend objectives around the solar system in the year 2561. Players will have the chance to fight using a variety of futuristic weaponry, armoured suits, support equipment and vehicles. In reference to other games this stems from my ideas for the MMOFPS game Planetside, which I have detailed on my fan site. However by no means am I hoping that our game will be an MMO, just a standard sized FPS multiplayer game is our goal.
We are using the Unreal Development Kit to make the game.
Backstory
The year is 2561.Mankind has spread throughout the solar system establishing colonies of thousands and millions across its planets and moons. The population is ruled by the Sol Republic council from Earth, yet unrest is rife across the system as living conditions across human space are falling as Earth becomes more industrialised and the colonies feel left behind by the progress made on Earth. There has been a religious conglomerate formed for centuries, which is giving many of the populace aspirations far beyond the limits of possibility, fuelling the increasing unrest.The conglomerate is the largest corporation in humanities history and is covertly funding mercenaries to strike republic assets, causing more and more people and their colonies to turn away from the republic. These mercenaries and the independent colonies are currently the target of the republics military, which have been dispatched from garrisons across the system in strike cruisers to root out the mercenaries and discover their paymasters.The republic military strike from orbit in drop capsules with each force tailored to the mission objectives; assault squads utilise jump packs while defensive missions call for the troops to don heavy armour. Reconnaissance tasks see the troopers wearing active camouflage, allowing them to blend into their surroundings and avoid detection. When objectives are likely to be fluid infantry wear more versatile armour, making them able to fulfil various roles. All of the armour types are based around powered exo skeletons, giving the individual strength beyond that of even the strongest man.
Features
Players and teams have a high degree of customisation regarding the role they play:
- Choice of classes; standard, defensive, jet pack assault and infiltration
- Choice of weaponry; pistols, SMGs, rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, grenade launchers, flame throwers and missile launchers
- Choice of support roles (eventually): commander, medic, engineer and hacker
- Choice of vehicles (eventually); bikes, buggies, tanks and aircraft.
Combat revolves around 2 game modes which both focus on capturing or defending tactical objectives, similar to the Battlefield series of games:
- Capture and hold
- Capture and destroy.
Combat zone examples:
- Defending a space elevator dock above Earth's equator.
- Capturing a walking city colony that follows the night and day terminator on Mercury.
- Destroying a floating rebel colony in the clouds of Jupiter.
- Assaulting a mercenary held penal colony on Pluto.
- Liberating a Republic strike cruiser.
Progress
Recruitment started. Pistol, SMG, Rifle and chain gun models created and texturing started. UT Game altered to allow players to choose their weaponry and some equipment as they spawn. Control point systems being worked on. Concept art for our player models started.

What do we need?
We have a core of people working on the game at the moment however we are in need of a few people in particular:
- UDK Programmers to help us implement game systems
- Character modeller to model the various armoured suits
- Level designers to work on various maps.
