i just wanted bring it public, that the CACG does exist anywho i just wanted to share an article with you guys. I foun this article in the may 03 edition of gamepro magazine. Love for Cel >Chance Meeks-Scottsdale, AZ Make no mistake, game programming is hard and cel-shading doesnt necessarily offer shortcuts. Cel-shading's popularity started with an artistic decision. Jet Grind Radio, by sega for the Dreamcast is acknowledged as the first cel-shaded game; it made sense in a game about graffiti to have its characters and world reflect that visual style. Why did Sly Cooper, Wacky Races, and Link follow its lead? Simple it looks cool! Games have frequently fallen into two categories:"as realistic-looking as possible" and "as unrealistic-looking as possible." Cel-shading tends to belong to the latter, but it still makes sense within its own comic book come to life context. Plus, due to hardware limitations, cel-sahding techniques weren't feasible on older hardware, so on the current crop of consoles, designers are trying fresh stylistc ideas with the extra power. By the way, do you know your first name is a Monopoly card? Okay lets discuss this topic... for me i dissagree that its a popular thing, but i agree with cheapalert in the other thread saying that it is a shortcut. -- Sachmo The Wang and me are property of modDB© Dead Aim Clear Score: 41mins 16secs beat that biaotch!! |

It's a trick to hide bad effort, yes. Cel-shading is supported on ALL hardware btw. Even my old PowerVR PCX1 card from '95 could do it. Cel-shading first appeared on X-Wing's blasters dated all the way back to 1992. - Edited By CheapAlert On Fri 4th, Apr 2003 @ 2:18:59pm -- < insert subject games here >

i guess its an acquired taste, but not one i would want to have. It's just so shabby looking and makes the designers look like amatuers -- Sachmo The Wang and me are property of modDB© Dead Aim Clear Score: 41mins 16secs beat that biaotch!! |

I like cel-shading, however I prefer my games to look gritty and real. Cel-shading isnt a cop out, their was a tutorial on how todo cel shading in ut2k3 and it seemed more complex than using normal textures. -- Why wont it save me? |

Cel-shading is a shortcut to money because kids wub it. If Conker2 was celshaded... elementary society would die. - Edited By CheapAlert On Sat 5th, Apr 2003 @ 1:53:11pm -- < insert subject games here >

cel-shading is a cheap workaround to market games instead of working on making it look nice, they just cover up any mistakes they made and they say it is a special feature -- ___________________________
