BF2 or HL2 - easier to mod? | Locked | |

I have only done some basic opening of models in 3ds Max but I am far from creating a total conversion. I want to make a squad-based shooter like Brothers-in-Arms, but I would just like to ask the question of which game would be easier to mod for, HL2 or BF2. I think BF2 because BFV is a very mod-friendly game, you even get to "make" your mod and it appears in the menu and creates a directory for it. It is also not coming out for a few months so it would give me time to learn how to model and code. Any ideas? Edited by: DaviesM |

Valve Hammer Editor can be tricky at first, but overall it is not a hard program to use as long as you know what you are doing. Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are both very mod friendly... I don't know much about BF2 and what its software development kits are like so I don't know which is better. --

But really, HOW hard is it to, for example - add a new weapon, or object into the game? |

Well, from what I've heard from other modders, BF2 is FAR better, if you plan on adding veichles (Land, Sea, or Air), but to be honest, I haven't tried either, so I won't hint. However, personaly, I think that BF2 is much more multi-player friendly than HL2 |

hl2 is a big hassle to mod BF2 should be easier than BF1942 i've heard and that was easy, though there's hardly any tools for non-commercial modeling apps for it (wtf no .rf2 export w/ bones for ms3d!?) -- < insert subject games here >

The biggest problem is that HL2 uses C++, which can be a big learning curve if you haven't had any coding experiance prior to learning it. BF2 will most likely use a scripting language again, which means no need to buy expensive applications! |
