The title should explain all of it. I've just watched Lion King again (whilst digitising all my videos) and thought "Why the hell nas nothing surpassed its opening sequence?". So, do you have any suggestions which can beat it (Doesn't have to be animated), and I don't mean purely on technical merit.

Lol, I really wish this was "Best Film Endings", but oh well.

I suppose Hero has a pretty damn good opening. It walks you through the Forbidden City in China. As Jet Li makes it into the front courtyard, there's thousands of soldiers loyal to the king that stretch as far as the eye can see. Just the spectacle itself was pretty amazing to see.

I gotta admit, though; Lion King did have on popular opening sequence.

Apocalypse Now. Napalm in the trees burning, while Morrison's belting out the lyrics to The End with his mental wellbeing barely held in check.

I think LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring had a pretty good opening. The war scene between the human and the elves against the orcs and Sauron was awesome I reckon :)

The LOTR:FOTR opening is one in particular that stole my breath, especially when Sauron starts knocking men around like acorns. That whole 5-10 minute intro was beautiful.

you know how ali baba and the 40 thieves was actually 40,000 thieves? well in the movie they got 40,000 real extras to play them. its a pretty crazy opening to just see 40,000 people under control

Spaceballs?

nah, I cant really think of anything else to add. Spaceballs is actually pretty funny though.

Star Wars actually got lucas in trouble because he didn't show any acting or technical credits.

Ahh yes, Saving Private Ryan! I totally forgot about that! That was insane how scary it looked when that door fell and those soldiers were fired upon by the turrets. So scary :S

It's also being used in that new Conker game (Live & Reloaded), so you'll be able to see it, but with furries :D
