I think that the whole idea with digging things up is a good one and I think you definitely can build a game around it.

Lastly I want to mention: 'Show! Don't tell!'
I highly suggest you should not start out your presentation with saying "it is awesome". Formally show the design and explain why you think it will be good, rather than just saying "it will be good".
