Question to y'all:

Is Advent Rising really as bad as all the reviews imply? I think I asked this before somewhere, but I couldn't find the thread. The reason I ask is because my local CompUSA is putting lots of stuff out on Clearance, which means Advent Rising is now sitting out by the bunch for 10 bucks apiece.

They also have Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, which I might pick up too.

No way. Advent rising is a ton of fun. Oodles, in fact.

Yup. Those guys were just jacked up on something. The grahics were outdated, yes, but trust me, theres worse. From a storytelling perspective it was quite interesting, and the controls were nice and tight. There are some lush beatiful sights to see, and although theres occasional slow-down, its nothing terrifying. For ten dollars I say its a sure buy. Run out and pick it up now.

Picked it up. It isn't half bad, though I can see why some companies scored it pretty low. Some of the shooting mechanics leave a lot to be desired, plus the plot is ridiculously close to that of Halo's. Not just in the "Big menacing alien race comes to kill humanity, let's duke it out!"--sense, thus far, the whole beginning of the game just feels like Halo:

Start on massive space ship. Get introduced to the cast. Alien race attacks. Run for the escape pods. Barely survive the crash down to the planet. Jump into a warthog. Race around in a massive landscape.

I hope it gets beyond that soon.

If nothing else, I love the FMV sequences. I'd love to just watch this as a movie.
