A VERY ORIGINAL AND COOL IDEA! (Forums : Ideas & Concepts : A VERY ORIGINAL AND COOL IDEA!) Locked

As you probably noticed, Half-Life 2 has a really cool and realistic physics engine.
If you played Garry's MOD you probably know that it is possible to build everything.
Whats bad about Garry's MOD is that its pointless building all those stuff and it's getting boring after a while.
My idea is that instead of just building stuff, the players will have to build stuff to pass somekind of a mission with his team. (Co-op)

The gameplay is like that:
When a player spawns he gets a few ordinary weapons like a pistol, SMG and a few grenades.
The other tools the player get is stuff like rope gun, bloon gun, thruster gun, and wheel gun.
Just like in Garry's MOD.
Some tools I would like to add are:
Seat gun: Attach a seat to the vehicle and when you press 'E', you're attached to the seat.
This way the players wont fall off their cars.
It is possible to put a few seats on one car.

And the spawn menu, it wont have any ragdolls and stuff like that, but it'll have some of the objects and useful stuff to build something.
Also a few kinds of michineguns can be attached to the vehicles.

The maps will be huge open maps and in order to pass the mission the players will have to build themselves boats, cars, hot air baloos, hovercrafts,
or whatever they want to help them get to their destination and accomplish the mission.

I need MOD team:
-A few coders and a modeler.

ohoho good luck, it's common that coders are rare and don't frequent forums. It's better but risky to go in direct contact with them.

All because coders don't do that kind of nonsense...
Belive me, I know. (I'm a coder myself...)

When I said dont hold your breath it was because your post seemed a little...naive.

"I need a few coders and a modeller" sounds a little bratty, especially for a mod with a nebulous gamestyle. You talked about basically copying another mod and didnt describe what you would be contributing.

Im not against people being creative, but as evidenced by the person who posted before me, Im not alone in my assessment.

Yeah it is usually very hard to find coders, as cheapalert said they don't usually frequent the forums.

In reply to -Apokalypse13 :
"basically copying another mod"??!
Did you actually read all my post or only an half of it?!
Garry's MOD is completly different.
Theres no goal at all.
Just build stuff and take funny screenies.
Its fun at the beggining, but gets boring pretty fast.
In my MOD, players will have to use their creative skills to build something that will help them to pass missions.
"few coders and a modeller" sounds a little bratty"???
Do you have any other idea how to say that in a not "bratty" way?

Computer game coders aren't frequent anywhere.

first off use the edit button, dont double post ;)

and yes coders are rare. i think you might have a good idea, but you havent gone into much depth, explain a little more, tell us more about weapons, gameplay, teams, etc. you have a good start, just fill us in on more of it

I was planning to tell all that info to people who joined the team....
But I think you're right.
And sorry for the double posts.
BTW: Are you a coder?

Well you could do nearly all that in garrys mod atm , if only you used that rare thing around here Imagination..

Learn how to map a big map then just tell people about this "mission" you dont really need to bother doing any coding modelling or any thing.

And seats can be achieved easily im sure..

no, plan on trying to learn this summer, i do PR mainly, and i know how to map but dont have time to do that one any more really.

i understand wanting to keep some stuff hidden, some of the very unique and such. but there is some stuff that you can probably tell us to get some interest.

Just send this whole idea to Garry so he can keep in mind a few of the things whilst coding. (To my knowledge, he's already working on coding in an mp feature.)

Once you can do mp in Garry's mod, it really just takes one mapper and a full server to do what you just mentioned.

Just make all maps start with the ateam_ tag so people know what sort of maps it concerns.

But hiring a whole mod team to recreate an existing mod and add about 3 features? Useless.

This sounds likes the next version of Garrys Mod.

Looks like nobody really likes my idea.
In fact, instead of helping you write COMPLETE NONSENSE!
Is that my fault that I wrote everything so bad and you got it all wrong, or are you just too stupid to understand???!
I'm outta here.

wow... maybe someone should just lock this...

I'm pretty certain it's the first one. I mean, eveyone is just saying that it's basically another Garry's Mod, with some REAL MP action. You, yourself, mention Garry's Mod 3 times in that small description.

Bai Bai!

Apr 9 2005 Anchor

I heard atleast 3 of you saying that I don't need a coder for this.
Well who is gonna make the NPCs work?
Whos gonna make the sprites work properly?
Whos gonna make player animations work?
Who will programm that seat?
Who will programm these machineguns that will be attachable to the vehicles?
And what about player healh? Whos gonna make it decrease when you get shot?
Whos gonna remove the mostly useless objects from the menu and add new objects?

And you say that in my description makes it sound just like another Garry's MOD?
Well that only shows that you don't know what Garry's MOD is!
Its like saying Max Payne is another Quake bacuse they both are 3D and you can shoot in both.
All I take from Garry's MOD is the idea of building.

How about you could go off of another engine without changing the code!!!!!! WOW there is a concept! Might help you to take some advice from experienced modders rather than taking it as a personal attack next time. :/
