Hello Everyone On behalf of the art staff, I'm looking for two more competent pixel artists/animators to add to the team. My team and I are producing a 2D retro beat-em-up on our spare time. We all met by attending this year's Global Game Jam and produced a game (more like alpha prototype) called Path.

A bit about ourselves, we're wannabes. We say we want to make a game, but actually we aim to produce a polished, playable game demo by May this year. One of the members of the team suggests we make our presence known by submitting our game demo to the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention. This game will be the teams' "real game" that we agreed on producing.
Anyways, here's a little bit about the game. This game is a love letter to the beat-em-up games of the late 80s to the mid 90s. The player gets to choose one of the seven playable agents in the game's campaign mode. Here are the characters:

Yep, the playable characters are all females and each one represent one of the seven virtues: humility, diligence, patience, charity, chastity, temperance, kindness.
There will be seven levels, with sub-areas on each level. The game will still have a linear path, but the player can choose certain areas to head forward. Along the way the player will encounter seven bosses in the game known as the "Lethal 7":

Yep, the boss characters are all female (though the big guy doesn't count) and each one represent one of the seven vices: pride, sloth, wrath, greed, lust, gluttony, envy.
The Lethal 7 took over an intelligence agency and plans to take over the city. Also they held the owner and head operative of the intelligence agency captive to lure the seven agents towards him. And yep, basically one of the seven agents defeat the bosses, saves the city, and save the head operative. Yes, this game will have an urban setting, awesome music, etc. but what makes this game stand out? What makes this game different from the rest of the beat-em-up games from the past? What makes this game fun?
How will this game stand out?
- this game will be colorful, filled with neon lights, and will feature a city that represents distraction, splendor, and debauchery. There will be dilapidated areas as well, but will still have some splendor attached to it. - the music will be upbeat and will have a range of music types, from hip hop to electronic music to synth punk, etc.- the game will feature other modes than just multi-player: - there's plans on implementing a versus mode, which will make the Lethal 7 playable - there's plans on implementing a challenge mode which serves as missions in the game - there's plans on implementing a shop which can unlock certain game-play features or just unlock cosmetic items
What makes this game different from the rest of the beat-em-up games from the past?
- while there are playable females on certain beat-em-up games, there's little to no games that feature an all female cast of characters- there are more playable characters to select than most beat-em-ups (the most so far is from X-Men Arcade followed by Sailor Moon R)- the games from the past have this serious campy tone at times, but this game will make references to that campy tone as well as reference the memes and pop culture of today's society- current technology has made it possible for games to explore other game mechanics as well as amp up the graphics...this game will have physics, yep (●_●)

What makes this game fun?- each vice should be fought with caution, which means that it's not enough to follow patterns and follow the boss around to defeat them. There are moments where the boss will trigger a special ability at random.- each virtue has their strengths and weaknesses, which breaks the typical mold of "a strong (female) character"- each virtue has their own fighting style, which gives the player what fighting style he/she is comfortable with- it will capture the "pick-up and play" feeling from the beat-em-up games of the past in addition to the player choosing to play anytime he/she wants as this game will have save states- refer back to the first two questions and look at the answers ┐(≧▽≦)┌

Anyways, this is a preview of what the developers have for the alpha prototype so far

Hopefully, I can find two more competent pixel artists/animators who:

  • likes to help contribute into developing a beat-em-up game
  • are into beat-em-up games
  • are committed to stick around until a polished game demo is made
  • are located locally in Dallas, TX or in areas within the Central Standard Time Zone

The team do have plans to establish a game company, but for now we're not concerned about establishing a company, but to make a game demo first.

We're in it to make great games, and the money will follow

To wrap up, here's the list of departments involved and the number of people in each department:

  • Art: 2
  • Design: 4
  • Coding: 4
  • Music: 1
  • Production: 1
  • Management: 2

Along the way the number will likely fluctuate, and there's people in the team that will bridge off to other departments. If any of you are interested then please send me a private message on here first and I'll let you all know more information. If any just wants to ask questions, that's fine too.

And these girls will appreciate the help the team can get
