Every summer, gamers go through a debilitating drought. The well of releases worth playing slows to a trickle and many are left to do nothing more than drool over the titles planned for release next holiday season. It's during this time that many gamers come to ModDB to satiate their gaming appetites. They search high and low for something that will pique their interest.

While the MOTY Awards provide a wealth of choices among mods and indie games, they usually overlook gaming gems within our community released in the first half of the year. To combat this oversight, ModDB has launched the Summer of Mods & Indies event! Featuring exclusive content from all the major releases of the last 6 months, gamers are bound to find something to quench their thirst.

The Summer of Mods & Indies provides much needed exposure to mods and indie games in order to help them connect with their potential audiences. If you'd like to participate in this year's event, your too late... entries closed on July 15th. Instead sit back, thank the presenting sponsor US Air Force, and prepare to be bombarded with exclusive content from the best mods and indies from the first 6 months of the year.

Summer of Mods & Indies - Archasis II

Here we go, Day 1 of the Summer of Mods & Indies event. For our first participant, we have the Unreal tournament 3 mod Archasis II. While it seems UT3 didn't receive as much praise as its predecessors, modders at still latching onto it as their next platform of choice. For good reason too; mods competing in the MSUC are breathing some new life in the game.

Furthermore, the contest phase deadlines are forcing teams to knuckle down and show some discipline working in relatively short iterative cycles. Archasis II is a great example of this. Their first bit of coverage is an article detailing how far they've come with the mod while competing in the MSUC.

Day two explores the world behind Archasis II, the kingdom of Durian.

Day three shows of new updates coming to Archasis II and a new focus on a single player/co-op experience.

Look at the blood. that's the only flaw Unreal engine 3 has.

That has nothing to do with the engine. It has to do with the effects artist.

I would definitely like to see some disembowelment; especially with swords.

Great idea MODDB.com!
I really like the Summer of Mods & Indies especially since it can be hard to find and follow all these great mods :)

This first one slipped under my radar so I'm glad to be reminded of it.
Thanks again for hosting this kick *** modding website. Much appreciated!
