Wow finally fixed the bug with crash whenever I pick up any items. Some suggestions: hotkeys for quicksave and quickload should be used by default in config.cfg, same for + and - to increase/reduce status bar size. In the gif you are playing dimensions of the machine and look quite fast, when I play it with Zircon it's extremely slow on start map, except when I remove the RT dlights. I'd gladly remove them for a better FPS, but rockets, grenades, explosions and thunderbolt doesn't make light anymore

Thank you for the feedback!

"except when I remove the RT dlights"

Are you playing it with real-time lighting on? If so, you have quite the machine. I'm not sure what to say if that is the case, real-time lighting is very expensive -- not much of a big deal with the stock Quake maps but the Dimension of the Machine maps are quite the opposite. I do not have realtime lighting on, just default settings in gif.

"Some suggestions: hotkeys for quicksave and quickload should be used by default in config.cfg, same for + and - to increase/reduce status bar size"

I used the stock Quake defaults, which have those keys ...

bind + sizeup
bind = sizeup
bind - sizedown

bind F6 "echo Quicksaving...; wait; save quick"
bind F9 "echo Quickloading...; wait; load quick"

I think the engine is not handling the start map for Dimension of the Machine perfectly -- current Zircon is based on DarkPlaces Beta and old Zircon based on DarkPlaces Classic actually appears to do better on that particular map (not typical, DarkPlaces Beta is way faster) --- so there is actually a performance issue I want to investigate further, but I am not certain how quickly I can spend time on that.

But I noticed it does not seem to be as fast as expected on the Dimension of the Machine start map -- and at some point I want to figure out why (and presumably fix it). The renderer in DarkPlaces is very complex so it takes a serious effort to unwind and look through what it is doing differently on that map, and then to identify where it is doing it.

Ok, you meant the regular dynamic lights. In time I am going to see what is going on with the rendering speed of Dimension of the Machine start map.
