The v5.3.1 Hotfix corrects an issue with a corrupt text file, which made it impossible to load a save in the 194 campaign if, in between the save and attempted load, you even started a 190 campaign. It could also have caused general stability issues in the 194 campaign. The Hotfix also includes some minor updates to Goguryeo in the 194 campaign that somehow missed inclusion in the v5.3 (Jian'an) Update, as well as fixing a few missing bodyguard models in the 190 campaign. This Hotfix is not necessarily required, however it is highly suggested to install.

Important notice: Must have the Rise of Three Kingdoms v4.5 Full Release and RoTK v5.3 Update installed prior to installing this update. This update is NOT save-game compatible (will break saves).
To install the update, extract contents of RoTK_v531_HotFix.zip into your main Medieval II Total War directory and allow to overwrite.
Hi. I have not try the hotfix but just to let you know that for the previous 5.3 there a problem from my case that in 190 campaign any 3D battle with xuanjiaqibing will break the game immediately. Please look into that if you can.
Found the issue, it was a dumb mistake on my part.
Go to your mods/rotk/data190/unit_models/ folder, then open battle_models.modeldb with (preferably) Notepad++ . Press ctrl + H to bring up the replace function.
In "Find what" put: 52 unit_models/sanguo/textures/gouxiangwushiLK.texture
In "Replace with" put: 51 unit_models/sanguo/textures/gouxiangwushiLK.texture
Then replace, and then save and exit. I just tested and you can resume a 190 campaign after making this change, just make sure you select "2) Early campaign (190)" in the launcher, so that the change you just made will overwrite what is in the main data folder. After selecting that option one time, you can then use "1) No Change (continue campaign)" in the future without worry.
Thanks for the bug report! I appreciate it!
Hello author, is there any way to increase the number of soldiers led by all generals? They are usually too few to win the battle alone. Thank you.
You can increase the number in export_descr_units.txt . There are guides online on how to do it.
Hi Author, I have found a bug in Rise of Three Kingdoms Version 5.3 (Jian'an).
I am playing Yanzhou Lu Bu who is allied with Huainan Yuan Shu, and the relationship profile shows "Outstanding". In the 41 round, the game prompts Yuan Shu to proclaim as Emperor, and the game releases the mission "Destroy the Fake Emperor-Yuan Shu". But in the same round of 41, the game also prompted "Mission Expired - Kill the Usurper Yuanshu with reward 40,000 wuzhu". The Mission bar shows "There are currently no mission". All the friendly troops from Huainan instantly became enemies to me, with "Terrible" relationship. It is unable to ceasefire even if I have paid 70,000 wuzhu to Huainan Yuan Shu.
Can you fix it?
I’ve written about this before somewhere, but the mission did not fail. For some reason that fail message comes up when the mission to kill Yuan Shu is issued, but the mission is very much still active.
But I will talk with Gigantus to see if we can’t find a way to keep that failed message from popping up
Hi Author
I reloaded the same savegame and tried to break the alliance with Huainan Yuan Shu at turn 40. When the "Destroy the Fake Emperor-Yuan Shu" mission is issued, as expected at turn 41, everything worked according to intended design and I'm still able to find the "Kill the Usurper Yuan Shu" mission showing up in the mission tab. In this situation, no mission is expired at turn 41. But at turn 42, the game prompt mission failed with "Kill the Usurper Yuan Shu -The council is most disappointed that you failed to kill Yuan Shu" message. Long story short, in either cases, your will never complete the given mission.
As I already said, you don’t fail the mission despite what the message says. When Yuan Shu is killed, you get the reward. Gigantus and myself are currently working on getting that fail message to stop improperly displaying.
Thank you so much for the further clarification.
You're very welcome. And some good news as well - we found the issue and in the next patch you will no longer receive the fail mission message.
Thank you so much! You guys are AWESOME!
The Baishui Pass battle map crashed
I just tested and had no issue loading, or fighting, in Baishuiguan.
Do you have the 4GB Patch installed?
Your crash is indicative of a hardware issue on your end. Available memory on drive, video card memory, available RAM, VRAM, etc., and things of that nature. Quite simply, you might be running out of memory when the game needs it - in this case it's when all battlefield assets and units are loading in, which in turn causes it to crash.
Thank you so much
Hello Author. Is there a way to change the heir in ROTK? In the history of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Biao, Yuan Shao and Cao Cao had plans to select their intended heirs.
Unfortunately such cannot be done at all in Medieval 2.
