Nightmare House 2 is a free, first-person-shooter horror modification, based on the Source Engine by Valve Software.
///Installation///
This modification requires a registered Steam client.
1 - Extract the NH folder inside this rar to: Steam\steamapps\sourcemods (if sourcemods doesn't exists create it).
2 - Restart Steam and Nightmare House 2 should appear in your game library.
Note that you are not required to own any Source engine based game (Half-Life 2, etc) in order for NH2 to run.
However, steam will automatically download the base assets when trying to launch NH2 without any Source based game installed, so get ready to download a few extra GBs.
If you do not know where your main steam folder is it can usually be found in C:\Program Files or similar.
///Intro Crash Fix///
YOU MAY CRASH AFTER THE INTRO LOGO, to fix this do the following:
1 - Go to your Steam library, click on games, from the drop menu select tools.
2 - In the tool list find "Source SDK base 2013 singleplayer", right click on it, select properties.
3 - Go to the BETAS tab, you should see a little down arrow under the "Select the beta you would like to opt into" title, click on it and from the dropdown menu choose "upcoming-" and click close.
4 - Steam will download some missing files, when done, restart your steam and launch NH2 again.

Putting this here since ModDB doesn't exactly have a multiple mod version review system yet i think and i fear that this feedback may be drowned in the older mod version reviews.
"Wonderful mod, just finished it a minute ago, using Hard difficulty since i've replayed this mod enough to the point where i still remember some enemy placements and events.
It's great that there are some extensions and modifications to existing maps, visuals are awesome, and i see you guys even managed to add some more VAs to probably clean up the story more.
Nice move on modifying default HL2's weapon behaviours, though i ended up rarely using firearms since the axe is pretty much more powerful than practically almost all the weapons in the mod when you know HL2's zombie behaviour.
The only time i used firearms is when facing riot cops and fast zombies, which ended up wasting all my ammunition since the ammo limit is lowered even further.
I'm also playing on Hard, which means enemies are bullet sponges and weapons are generally more sucky than usual, though thankfully i have not died a single time in the mod due to ammo and health placements, so i guess it's balanced?

Pretty good remake though. Loved to relive some old memories. I felt like it was a little rough around the edges though. I didn't seem very satisfied with the weapon models. If the pistol was a glock and the SMG was the old MP5. I'm pretty nitpicky about the weapons in a game. I loved the fast firing rate of the MP5, countering the fast slashes of the creepers. But overall a great experience with beautiful new textures and lighting.
The Lighting is ****** up, there are no shadows, no darkness, none of that now.

it's bright/dark as hell for me (depending where i look) i can't see ****,

why does the crosshair keeps disappearing all the time? It's annoying...
The crosshair shows briefly when you press USE, so it'll be easy to pick up items. With weapons however you can hold right click to make it visible, like some sort of an iron sight. We added it to create a more stressed feeling, and make the game feel different from HL2. If too many people won't like it we'll add an option to make the crosshair always visible.

The map nh2c6_v2 is currently crashing my game as it loads. No other map does this. Please fix.

I played it again, and i loved the small edits compared to the old version. Was great to be able to play this again :)
Although I weren't a fan of the weapon "fire" sounds that much, also I think there is a bug with the Shotgun causing the "load" sound to dublicate and also cause phase issues in the sound, which gives you the "sound playing right in your face" result....

the game crashes when I start it I did what the installation guide says and still having this problem "could not find library client" any fix for this? I really want to play this game since first release but I always had problems...

How can i download with .rar Files. I mean i downloadet it now from here and now what? Should i paste it to steam/steamapps/common/sourcemods or do i Need a Programm to open the rar file and than extract to the Folder? And what is an NH Folder what means "NH" Please help.
You need to get a program that can open rar files.
This is probably just an issue with me, but Norton keeps removing the Client and Server.dlls stating that they're low-medium risk, leading always towards the "Could not load client library" error message. This issue didn't happen with the "Old" version so I don't know what set it off this time. Good mod anyways.

You should use a program like winzip, 7zip or winrar, then you should extract all the contents into your sourcemods folder. NH means Nightmare House :P (this was meant to send in reply to Guest on December 16th)

I can not get the RAR file to open. Has anyone had this issue? I also tried tiny opener, no luck. Anyone know what to do??
You have to extract it, then copy the nh file to steam/steamapps then into the sourcemods folder.
I've done that multiple times but It still does not open in steam.
