ResidentEvil-inspired modification, featuring basic mechanics from classic RE games, such as static camera, inventory, tank controls and more... Players find themselves in a mysterious mansion, full of zombies, headcrabs and other dangers. With limited inventory and movement, escaping the residence of evil horrors will not be an easy task.
3rd of December Patch.
Changelog:
- Fixed Gameover screen not showing player's corpse
- Fixed shotgun achievement not working properly
(Please work with no bugs this time.)
Installation:
This modification requires you to have Source SDK 2013 installed on steam.
To install the mod you need to move the lost_and_damned folder to *your steam directory*/steamapps/sourcemods
Troubleshooting help:
-Crash on startup-
If the mod crashes on startup, make sure to have "upcoming" beta set in betas of Source SDK 2013. (you must have it installed)
-Missing textures on floors/buggy reflections-
If you have missing textures on floors and just weird buggy reflections, open developer console with `(make sure to enable it in controls settings first) and type "mat_specular 0" without quotemarks.
-Inventory text looks too big-
Close the game, go to lost_and_damned/resource and rename 'sourcescheme.res' into 'sourcescheme_25.res', then rename 'sourcescheme_19.res' into 'sourcescheme.res', this should replace the inventory font with a slightly smaller one.
(you might aswell just open the 'sourcescheme.res' file itself, use ctrl+f to find "ScreenMessage" and below that change the 'tall' value yourself, the bigger value, the bigger inventory messages are)
Hella fun! Great concept, only con is the AI Voices. They're just objectively awful. And I wish the flashlight wasn't limited to one weapon. Made navigating dark areas limited as I had to use my pistol.
Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?
I'm playing this at night, with only a dim light on so that I can see my keyboard, and only my cat for company and I'm loving it! It's even raining outside, just like in game hahaha.
I encountered some Source engine jank at first, my attack button stopped working after I pressed it once after I acquired the pistol and switched to the crowbar, but reloading the save restored things to normal, I also managed to become stuck in a state of always turning to the left, because I was turning as I walked into the first zombie reveal, but reloading also fixed that. It took some getting used to the controls again, to be honest I blame Source, again, lol, the way the character stops when turning and has to build up some acceleration for a split second threw me off, I eventually died a couple times before I could get the hang of it (the secret is to never let go of shift, I found).
So that brings me to where I am now, I need some help, I'm lost (and damned) and I'm not sure what to do next, I've roamed back and forth for a while but I think I'm missing something, here is where I am: I.imgur.com . The door behind me here seems to require a red key, the one at the far end of the corridor is locked. I've backtracked and encountered the fast zombie, but that door is locked, I didn't find any key items in the room with the shotgun either, nor did I find any in the dorm room where the zombie comes from off-camera. Got any hints on what I should try?
Hello again, NiiRubra, sorry for late reply.
If you opened the door leading to candle lit hallways, that means you should already know that some wall paintings have items behind them, you should check them all in every room.
Hint: oranges
Ohhh okay. I did break a second painting with my crowbar, I guess I should have tried more of them. Thanks SellFace!
Hi, I havent played source mods in like 10 years. How do I get it to show up in my library, I've moved the folder into the sourcemods folder and installed Source SDK 2013, the mod is not showing up even after restarting steam.
Make sure you moved the “lost_and_damned” folder into sourcemods, and not the one that contains it.
Still not working, The folder is in the sourcemods folder. The folder which contains the mod files.
Is there a new steam update happened or something that you have to do before mods appear in your library?
My only guess is that perhaps the "sourcemods" that you try installing the mod into, isn't located in the steam's steamapps folder. It should look like *your_steam_root_folder*/steamapps/sourcemods. If you use a different steamapps directory, it wont work. It must be the one in where steam is installed, and don't forget to restart it to make the mod pop up.
will you release this mod on steam with achievements?
Unfortunately not possible for many reasons, one of them being the price for doing so, then there's a lot of unofficial music used in the mod that is owned by Capcom and bunch of other respective owners, I don't think it'd be a fully right idea to use copyrighted music even if my mod is free.
Besides, there are still quite few rough spots with all slight source jankyness in the mod. All in all, I believe it's simply not worth all the hustle, atleast for this project.
God damn it's hard. Reach pistol flashlight but that's my limit.
Ok but memes aside, fine, I'm still gonna add difficulty selection and other changes in the upcoming update. Certainly, tank controls and combat take time to get used to.
not sure what 'tank' controls are, I'm just downloading...but if it's driving around in an armoured vehicle with a big gun then I'm up for it.
Hello SellFace, I want to make a Chinese patch for your module "Lost and Damned", but I don't know where the text that needs to be translated is, so I need your help.
The whole text is sadly written in the mapfile itself.
So for localisation you’ll have to get a decompiled version of the map, find all texts and replace them with custom #localisation-like entries.(basically doing the whole localisation support).
I thought of adding such support in the update which unexpectedly got majorly delayed, to put it roughly.
But since you’re willing to do the patch, I’ll try to resume the work on next update soon.
So once it comes out, you’ll be able to easily edit texts
Thank you very much!
Shijou_maki, hello again! Thanks for your patience. The patch is out, almost all texts are translatable now. Everything you need will be located in resources/lost_and_damned_english.txt.
If you need any further help, feel free to hit me up anytime.
Thank you very much for your dedication to this mod.❤️
