8 months after Alpha 5, the next Estranged release, Act 1 (beta) is here.
Second mirror: www.iamestranged.com/play. To play, you will need to install "Source SDK Base 2013" from the "Tools" menu on Steam. You can also install it using this link.
Changes since alpha 5 include:
- Completely overhauled existing maps and added new maps
- Brand new infected and other enemies
- Brand new and re-recorded voice work
- Many bug fixes, and too many improvements to list
- Danish, Norwegian, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Swedish, Spanish, Hungarian and partial Simplified Chinese translations.
I'd like to thank everyone involved in this release, it wouldn't be what it is without all of you.

Edit: I updated this to RC5 - changes include Spanish and Hungarian localizations and bug fixes for players seeing invisible walls. Now uses sourcemods/estrangedact1 rather than sourcemods/estranged, and bzip2 compression rather than zip.

Installation instructions: Put the estranged folder in ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/sourcemods/ after installing Source SDK 2013, and then restart steam, it'll show up in your steam library.

Quite honestly I don't understand why Valve made this so complicated on Linux. I really hope we get on Steam, because the average user shouldn't have to figure this out!

Just for record, as I saw the previous comment from "Guest" "nao consigo baixar alguem pode me ajudar" (wich is portuguese for "I'm having no success with the download, can somebody help me?"), if I try to download it from the mirror (the red button) I often get:
"The file you have selected (estranged-act1-beta-rc5-linux.tar.bz2) is not available via any mirrors. Please check back shortly as our servers update every 5 minutes."
And if I'm not logged in, I get the same message plus "To access more download mirrors we encourage you to join the community, otherwise please be patient and keep trying.".
Although it worked once. (When I got "Click to download estranged-act1-beta-rc5-linux.tar.bz2 if it doesn't start automatically or try another mirror.")
The "Download on Desura" option returns, after "Preparing to install estranged":
"There was an error during gathering
information process and it has been stopped.
The item handle was null (gather info failed)
[16.0]"
The download link on Iamestranged.com works just fine, even though it's really slow. Actually both Us1.dl.indiedb.com and Ss5.cdn.x2-network.com are really slow. So, lets just wait until it finishes :)
