Description

In this custom single player level for Half-Life 2, Gordon Freeman has been sent to a city that has been taken over by Combine hostiles. He must eliminate all enemy threats and rescue the remaining civilians. This map was produced for my Final Major Project at University. The look of the map was inspired by the modern architectural styles of the United Arab Emirates. Hey i played this through, here's what i think.

Gameplay design: Very awesome gameplay. I played this on Hard mode and let me tell ya - this was tough. A good kind of tough where you are actually monitoring usage of ammo and worrying about the next soldier that's sneaking around the corner. Nice simple layout and Combine storage boxes keeping the soldiers in cover and using tactics to their advantage. It was simple and straightforward, but in a good way. I thought it was totally fun to play, and that's usually more important than looks.

Technical skill: That said, I do need to talk about the mapping skill. It kinda seems that your mapping ability is in the beginner zone, but it's not bad at all. Things like frame rate drops and unusual props (the trash crammed into one area was "solid" and I had to hop to get over it) tell me you need practice with prop placement and useful optimization. However, custom textures and good lighting kinda balance it out in your favor. I notice that there is absolutely no sound at all in the map, outside of NPC movement and gunfire. You should spend some time looking up soundscapes or ambient_generic to give your map more of a "mood". Sound is very useful and could have made this map more awesome.

Good luck with your next mapping projects. In case you don't know, Interlopers is a good place to get help with mapping. Overall, fun map worth downloading.

Joe Rogers has this right, I think, CaffeinePowered.
Although I had no frame rate issues at all.

Darned good mapping and superb combat gameplay.
Pros: Absolutely everything except -
Cons: All very, very minor - Needs background sound/music. The rubbish in one place was a bit overdone (and very solid!). All my hostages were dead!

Definitely a superior map. Brilliantly thought out and planned.
Very well done indeed and thank you. I, too, look forward to your next.

I've just realised. This is in Addons.
You should move it to mods where you and the map will get the exposure you and it deserves, CaffeinePowered.

Unless I am mistaken, Single Player Levels do not count as mods unless, again, I am mistaken.

Nice map.
Original map design/style, fun gameplay, well balanced difficulty.

Not the best map around, but very well done for a beginner.
Worth playing (I did play it twice, on Normal and then Hard).
