Carpiquet Airfield Map (7km west Caen, Normandy, 4 to 9 July 1944) Operation Windsor It's an old mission (created in Dec 2011), and it wasn't yet on Moddb. (old one was unplayble because too much polys and too many Ai waves). I've tweaked the script and reduced the size: now, it's a funny mission to play! Mp missions in all modes: Skirmish coop, combat, capture the flag and Assault zones. Sp mission only in skirmish mode VERSION: 5 july 2012
Historical mission on a large map, based on a self interpretation of the next image, to give something near the reality of this fight, with an acceptable gameplay..
History context:
4 July 1944: Caen is not yet released. The front has stabilized since nearly a month in the region of Caen. Operation Windsor, a prelude to Operation Charnwood to liberate Caen, is to take Carpiquet and its airfield.
At 5:00, the "la Chaudière" and the North Shore Regiments attack the village occupied by about fifty SS. Troops are supported by a barrage of 248 guns belonging to the regiments of artillery and 408 mm and 380 mm battleships Rodney and Roberts. At 8:30, the village is free. During the attack of Carpiquet, the Royal Winnipeg has made a diversion by attacking South sheds.
The attack to the premises by the Royal Winnipeg South is quickly halted by fire from sheds and three tanks buried Panthers, as well as a bunker which are removed from SS
Around noon, the Queen must seize the barracks. After cleaning a blockhouse on the road to Caen, they are blocked by the firing of a cannon and three 88 Panthers buried. The attack is suspended.
In the afternoon of the 4 july 1944, two-against attacks launched by the armored SS, which will be repelled by artillery and Typhoons. However, Canadians withdrew.
On the evening of July 4, the village and the northern part of the airport under the control of troops canadienens.
The situation is very unstable. Canadians can be submerged at all times: north to Franqueville (towards Authie) south to Verson where the British are not moving, and west to Bretteville-sur-Odon.
On the night of 5 to 6 July, after a German artillery barrage, attacked the SS Franqueville to the positions of the North Shore. The attack was stopped in its tracks, and the following attacks are nailed in place. The uninsured are withdrawn. On the morning of 6, against the SS-attacked again, this time accompanied by the Panzers. The boilers "la Chaudière" are under assault, and companies need to back away from them.
It will take the intervention of the Shermans to rectify the situation.The last attack to take the airfield will be held on 9 with the capture of the barracks by the Queen, supported by tanks.

The Camerons Highlanders of Ottawa
The Fort Garry Horse
These regiments are in the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division.
German:
Elements of the 25 SS Panzergrenadier Regiment and the 12 SS Panzer Regiment (units belonging to the 12 SS Panzer Division "Hitler Youth")
- New sounds : MG42, Bofors and Flak38 turret, Tiger rotation turret, the real sound of the Willis Jeep, New ambiances (sound of country french village, insects, cuku, dogs, radar etc.), "Reinfs are arrived" sound (snare drum sound + German voice) , 88 gun and the Tiger (Maybach engine), mortar and a lot of New voices for all germans units (thank's to Ultimaratio for his help)
- 2 real German's marsh songs of WW2
- AI reinf modified (depend of the Mission level) and also i've changed the AI units names, conforms to this battle.
- New skins for vehicules (trucks, tanks, Sdkfz 251) with specials 3D skins "Busches camo" for some major German's tanks.
- New 3d characters (rabbits, dogs, roosters/3D Models by Ironweapon from "FFI" team) and animals skins (cows, chickens)
- New interface (icons, screens, menus, portraits, etc..)
- New colored labels for units
- New cross icon for player's squads:
- New German's Elite skins (2 SS "Das Reich", fallschirmjager "green devils", 26th & 12SS "Hitler Jungen", Medic, tank crew and commander, Mechanized Waffen SS, sniper, Medic, etc..)
(notice that the GEM2 engine sound seems to "saturate" when there is too much units on the map at the same time and it create a bug of infinite looped sounds. So, if it appears (not all of the time): just click on the save menu button and go back in game. It will stop that looped sounds.. I don't know the exact cause and the remedy to avoid this problem..)
INSTALLATION:
This archive is in 7z format (better compression), you can uncompress it with Winrar.
- Extract the mission folder in the "mod folder" inside your Men of War: Assault Squad game directory
Normal Path to the game "Men of War - Assault Squad":
- DvD version: C:\Program Files\1C Company\Men of War Assault Squad
- Steam Version: C:\Program Files\Steam2\SteamApps\common\men of war assault squad
Then launch the game and activate the mod (the file on the left side should pass on the right side).
Now you have a new button in the skirmish menu. Click on it and enjoy this mission.
This mission is my own work but i want to thank's for their help:

Nice to ear you loved Tessel. This mission can stress a very low computer. I've a 6 years computer (Intel quad6600+ Nvidia GTS8600) and this mission work fine on it whit video option at medium (no anisotropic, no blur, shadows and water at medium). I think you don't need to use the better video option to have fun with this game.
Please read the readme file of this mission!: I don't agree the use of my work in other mods, if theses modders didn't ask me BEFORE to use my stuff (i can refuse, if the mod present no interest for me, even my name appear in the credit list). If your mod is played only with your friends, it's ok, but if you expect to propose to download a mod with my stuff to others players, I don't agree because you did't respect the rules of the copyright..

1/ you have to activate the mod first: uncompress the archive and copy the folder in the "mod" folder in your game directory.
2/ Then, you have to activate the mod in the game: start the game, click "options", click "mod" and you should see "carpiquet" in the menu at the left of the screen. Click on it, and it should pass to the left side to be playable.
3/ When your mod is activated, you just have to go to the game menu, skirmish and now you will see the new button: "Normandie 1944", click on it and on next page clik on "Carpiquet" button to start the mission.
This Mission work fine with the last version of the game (2.00.13).I don't know if it works also on a previous version of the game (at least i've not try it).
So try to use the last version of the game. (If you use a steam version, the update should be automatic)

You should not talk about cracked version here.. (all companies check the new mods for their game)
This game is great and cheap now (only 24,99€ on steam)and there is a good comunity of modders who work on it.
So if you like it, you should buy it to support the developers, and to have fun to play with all the mods and addons, especialy in multiplayers mods..
There is some objects in your old version of MowAS, that crash the actual version of the game and also new objects and 3d models in the last versions that are incompatibles with olds versions of MowAS.
Maybe some mods and missions of Mow vanilla (not AS) should work with your version..

What happened to all the aa guns and flack 88's

I'm not sure to undestand well: You speak about the AA guns that were already in the airfield at the begining in my first version?
I've decided to supress them to had challenge because it was too easy to destruct AI tanks at the begining. And the first Ai tanks have been changed because AA tanks were never used to attack.. So i replaced them by a light scout car Daimler, according to real fights

I appologize to have less time than before to do new missions, because i've accepted a work as sellsman, and my commercial sector is all the south of France.A lot of kms per day, and i always sleep at the hotels, far from my PC at home..
I've a poor laptop that can't accept games so i can read and answer but i can't mod on it.. The good news is that I will buy soon a brand new laptop, stronger to be able to continue to mod missions on it, directly from hotels, so be patient..
Here is the 3 next missions i hope to do:
- Hill 112: My lastest german skirmish mission, to finish the Normandy 1944 campaign (The map is 70% done already, hope to finish it for September)
- a winter mission near Bastogne (playable on US Side. Map = 60% done)
- Batang: a Philippines mission (US Marines against Japan -Map 60% done)
- Another Normandy mission, but near St Lo (Playable on US Side).
If you have a wish or good ideas for a original and historical mission, don't hesitate to ask me in pm for a special mission to do.
Some Eastern front battles are not yet covered in game (to be playable as Russians or Germans)
I'm not a master in scripting, but i will try to propose you more variety in my next skirmish missions (airplane attack or arty, airborn assaults and other surprises).
I'm also open to collaborate with good Gem scripters and/or 3d modders if they are interested with my Mapping work..

Ok, if i find some time to do it, i will propose a "reverse mission" of this Carpiquet Airfield , with the player side as Canadians and AI side as Germans.
In the reality of the WWII, the Canadians did the impossible to take this airport to the SS, and loosed many soldiers..
The choice of Germany for this mission was only because this mission will be include in a complete German's Skirmish Normandie 1944 Campaign..

Canadians did the impossible and accomplished their mission.

Hello bassmaniac, I played your mod, looks awesome and I really liked, but after an hour of play I get an failure/error and I have to close... and apparently what I read here, it seems your mod requires a powerful PC, I think I have a PC at the height but not is the best, I've played other mods such as GSM Fields of Honor, neverending battles (which has a huge amount of objects on each map) combined with bmmod with graphics on high and the highest resolution, this makes that the game sometimes reduces the frames and it plays little slow, however this not gives me failures nor abrupt closes during the game, but well, my question is, if I reduce the graphics quality and / or resolution, can I play this mod without problems? Or this doesn't ensure stability during the game?
P.S. I wanted to get to the point of creating missions as you did on this map, as I searched tutorials but are not quite complete and I have created games with just the basics from the basics with simple scripts as waypoints, where I find a complete tutorial to create missions like you've managed to do here?

I think this mod require a good PC not just for the graphics (there is a lot of entities) but also because the addition of a lot of new voices and sounds.
All this news sounds create a very good (and new) immersive impression for this great game but it seems that the sound engine of this game is not really optimised and sometimes it looped the sounds..
So i recommand to reduce the graphioc quality for this mod on low PCs to reduce the overall stress of your computer..

Thanks for your answer, I hope this tutorial is helpful for me, thanks again ... but I have another question :P (for this I had to save several times before the game fails) I managed to capture all flags or command areas except the last of the center (the one with the missile) I say this because I managed to capture the two flags of heavy tanks, barely I could call tigers and panthers to reinforcements, but I couldn't call yet reinforcements of king tigers (and in your screenshots I see one) how to call I the beloved king tiger to reinforcements? hehehe cheers

I don't remember exactly what's flag give to the player the king tiger, but there it's sure there is one because the last time i'd play this mission, i've finished with 2 kingtigers, a Jagdgpanzer and 2 Panthers.. (maybe it's given also by the rocket flag)

Maybe your computer is too slow: Try reduce the graphic quality to reduce the overall stress of your computer..
Did you rework any of the game mechanics as well? Ranges, damage output etc? If not, are your maps fully compatible with GSM mod? I remember playing Brettevilette with GSM and it went fine until crashing half way through the map for no apparent reason. I don't know if this was caused by GSM or by some mysterious goblins haunting this game (It crashes a lot :P )
I think this mod should be compatible with GSM, since there is only new skins, ground textures, sounds, and some 3d details (camo bush, animals), and the skirmish script of this mod is different but not so far from the original one. The problem is it push the game engine to it's limits (graphical, memory and sound) and maybe it's too much for this old game engine with the addition of the GSM mod..

After each save/load game panzergrenadier are disappearing! is it bug?
It's not a bug of this mission but a bug of the game (it also append sometimes in standard skirmish missions when there is too much units)
MAN, i love your maps Bass, but i keep having a problem with this map. I'll be clearing the right hand side of snipers >:( and the game makes an error sound and freezes then closes it. it's on steam updated to 2.15. not sure if it's the map or Steam either way great work!

As it turns out, I forgot to disable the GSM mod I had on (explains the weird MG42 noise), cheers for.the reply anyway keep up the good work dude :-D
Do snipers spawn with each ai attack wave or are the pre scripted?
There is snipers already placed on some areas of the map and others who spawn with scripts..

Bassmaniac your missions are the best. Keep up the good work, you are doing a much better job than anyone else pretty much...I wish AS2 would have such brilliant skirmishes/missions...It would be nice if you could release some more though, well, you recently just released your mission/skirmish for AS2 but the game is badly optimized yet so I have big problems playing your map with all the doodads (like bushes)..or entities they are called in this I think, anyway, I would like a eastern front scenario :3 You are great ^.^
