Separate addon of flashlight from Brutal Doom: Black Edition v3.2 Final. This flashlight is more realistic, show shadows (like in Doom 3) and have adjustable beam width.
The flashlight is based on the great DarkdoomZ' Flashlight by Caligari87 (Credit to him!), with the following enhancements:
- Beam can alert monsters (like Brutal Doom v21) or not depending of an option when the Flashlight beam cross them.
- You can adjust beam width like a realistic electric torch. Small beam : the beam is more concentrated, intense, and can wake monsters farther away. But due to it small width, maybe it is easier to dodge monsters without waking them. Large beam: the beam is less concentrated, less intense (the widest beam is like a lantern or an candle) so you can get closer to monsters without waking them. Of course with a larger beam it is harder not to sweep monsters and wake them...
Your choice to play!
For maximum effect you need to enable shadows from flashlight:
ESC - Options - Display Options - Dynamic Light Shadows - Light Shadowmaps - Yes.
Load after Brutal Doom v21 mod. Also you need bind another button for BD:BE Flashlight (Customize Keyboard).
Go to Options - BE Flashlight Settings to configure monster alert ON/OFF and beam width.
The mod can be used as Brutal Doom v21 flashlight replacement, but it also works with any mod, or even with Doom Vanilla.
Only compatible with GZDoom 3.8+
Is there a way to get this add-on to work alongside the standard flashlight, rather than replace it? Because while I really like the way this mod casts shadows, I also really like the way the original reflects off surfaces (most noticed when using specular/normal maps).
Really don't see the interest of using a flashlight in a non-immersive mod like d4t. I mean you just shoot things.
It's problem with gzdoom engine.
What standard flashlight? I can't get the one in BDv21 to work at all?
If you have GZDoom 4.1+ version - you need use same flashlight version.
Sorry my question was more about the actual BDv21 mod. I thought it had a flashlight already? If it does, I can't get it to work and hence am relying on your mod which works great btw!
well, actually, bdv21 has its own flashlight, but it will only work with dynamic lights. if this mod here doesn't work for ya, try the flashlights v2
How do I enable dynamic lights?
U can find flashlights v2 here in moddb. And to enable dynamic lights, go to the main menu, open options, then display options, opengl options and dynamic light options. This path should work both for gzdoom and zandronum
It already works, if you bind both flashlights to separate keys and press both keys, the light will be intensified. The problem with this one though is it doesn't alert enemies. Don't see the point of using two flashlights however.
Flashlight working without Brutal Doom v21.

I recommend rename "BD:BE Flashlight Standalone"
Okay)
Where can I dl latest BDv21 from?
Here - Moddb.com
this is real nice
Glad you like it)
Hi, This mod doesn't work with GZdoom 4.0.0, in 3.5.0, it does work, but in latest, nothing. Any chance you can update this to work with the latest version of GZdoom please?
I tried everything I can think of to get this working in 4.0.0, but it simply refuses to function. But I do like the mod, just want to use the latest version of Gzdoom.
Hm. Need check it.
Yep, doesn't work sadly. I like this mod as well.
There is a new version of Gzdoom out, still no luck on getting this to work, it does show up as an option to rebind the key in customise keys, so the mod does register. also there was an issue with version 4.0.0 64bit, but it runs the game with the mod enabled with 4.1.0 64bit. But the flashlight doesn't light.
So this only works with GZdoom 3.5.0 to 3.7.0. currently
Just thought you should know. and hopefully correct the issue. as its a better flashlight then the BD version, more natural and more useful.
Thanks for making this.
hi again, do you have an update to this? as I really do miss using your flashlight. I'm currently using another, but I would reuse this one once you have it fixed for gzdoom 4.1.0+
Thanks in advance.
Need time.
OK understood, Guess that means, a lot has changed When this is ready again, I will certainly use it.
Thanks in advance
Can you try it?
Dropbox.com
Awesome, I can confirm this to work with GZdoom 4.1.2 (current of time of writing)
I also tested this with gzdoom 3.8.0, so it works with 3.5.0 and above, so you don't need to have two files in the zip upload.
I'm just restarted the game, but I can easy restart again, to use this flashlight mod, as to, me, its a very good natural flashlight to use.
Thank you for fixing this.
Oh. Nice :)
Update.
Added fixed version for GZDoom v4.1+.
5 errors, 0 warnings while compiling BDBE_Flashlight_GZDoom_4.1_fix.pk3:zscript.zsc
PLS add support for Brutal Doom64 this mode
Addon works with any mods. You can use it with vanilla.
Something is bothering me.
The standard flashlight from brutal mod alerts ennemies when they are lighted. This one doesn't.
which mean we could just keep the flashlight on all the time. Absolutly no reason to toggle it off.
Interesting. Did not even know flashlight could alert enemies. But yeah, would be cool to get this fixed!
Well, it's interesting.
But what if monsters not looking at you. They alerts? It's stupid.
Doesn't work with GZ 4.2.1, neither did it work with 4.1.1... I turned on light shadows and stuff, don't know what I did wrong
You need load version 4.1+. No need load two addons.
For me the best flashlight of all. Really. Good work.
=== Update 20.10.2019 ===
Added new flashlight from BD:BE v3.2. Now flashlight alerts monsters. In options player can disable it.
=== 02.11.2019 ===
Updated Flashlight from BE v3.2.a: Add beam size keyboard controls to change it directy in-game without going to Flashlight Options menu.
man, I get this error:
Script error, "BDBE_v3.2a_Flashlight.pk3:menudef.addon" line 16:
Unknown keyword 'AddOptionMenu'
How you load addon? What version GZDoom?
Please update your GZDoom.
=== Update ===
Simplified / faster code for Flashlight alerting monsters.
hey when you use the resurrection comman the flashlight is unable to be turn off or on just thought you like to know
The flashlight is very off the center, for example, if you go right into a wall, the beam will show up way too to the right
Yeah I noticed this too. Is there a way to adjust its 'centering' (plus or minus X offset sort of thing)? It seems like it's got some sort of offset to the player's right.
I think it's supposed to imitate a flashlight strapped to the right shoulder, pointed at the center of the screen. This placement makes shadows more noticable and effective. but of course several different options wouldn't hurt.
Yes.
If I run it with Zandronum, Will my PC die?
Nope.
Thanks! Best flashlight on the market! BTW, you should delete the line "Only compatible with GZDoom 3.8+" from the description, since it now works GZDoom 4.2.2 perfectly well.
Okay.
