I prefer Digital Distribution to Digital Disubution.
I like buying the game with the box. i like the box art and the booklet.
I like Steam.
I like turtles. Youtube.com
For some reason I laughed at that ^
how can you not laugh at that ;D
I love Steam :P
steam has a nice content delivery system and GUI but what I don't like is the constant updates and how it doesn't really support a lot of mods and 3rd party stuff.
I buy console games in stores and if there is something good on steam i buy it on steam
blablablabla...
Whoops, Fixed now
Next poll needs to be 'Who has the worst grammar' and the only choice should be Lodle :)
I think this poll is too rigid. I tend to buy games depending on whats A) released first, B) cheapest and C) available. You can't get Audiosurf or GMod boxed. But some games take AGES to become available on a Digital Distribution service, although if they are, they tend to be cheaper. Some are available there beforehand, so it really depends on what the game is, the cost and how badly I want it.
As usual, the poll is missing a major option. Online retail, anyone?
Amazon, Play, etc. Yes it's still technically a 'retail store', but it means it still gets delivered to you, and you usually save money on games bought online.
In some countries the PC shelves of the local games store have an abysmal stock of games compared to console, so it usually makes sense to order online. In many cases you can actually still get better deals online versus what some publishers are prepared to sell their games for on Steam, etc. (prime example being the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War bundles).
Finally a lot of people can't buy via digital distro because the games are totally overpriced or aren't even sold in their territory. A poll like this should maybe try to give an indication of why people are voting the way they are, as long as all options are catered for.
Well yes my grammar is bad and the key word in the poll is new games not re released games.
mainly buy from gamestop cause i dont have a card to buy anything on steam.
you can get gift cards from the credit card companies like american express and use them as credit cards. thats what i do ;)
Pre-paid debt cards work on Steam? I didn't know that! Awesome.
I voted for retail store. I bought all my games from a retail store, except Aliens vs. Predator 2. I got this one from an online shop.
both! Introversion style! Buy game, get instant download AND a retail box! Any other company who does just one of others is cheap! They all supply both now for the same price, do both! Steam = ripoff for charging you same/MORE as boxed copies, retail = ripoff for changing you same/MORE as digital copies. Don't belive me? GameStop has Orange Box for $30. Steam for $40. Other way around: Introversion has Uplink for $20, Steam for $10! (I'd rather spend the $20 & get the box AND instant download though)
come on, stop trying to rip us off & do both!
I dunno, maybe where you are. Over in the great RipOff land of AUs, OB on the shelf probably still costs 70 bucks, at least.
when you buy boxed steam games you can install them by the disk and then register your key with steam and download them like digital distribution. i just doesnt work with all games that are available on steam (like cod4)
Well, if I were to publish a game, I'd charge significantly less for digital distributed versions. I mean there are also fewer costs to it: no box, no printed manual, no physical disc.
well the last games i bought were Red Orchestra and Half Life 2 with CS:S got them both from Saturn (for those who may not know - a big department-store company) HL² and CS:S for around 35€ and RO for 10€
since i dont have a DVD Drive i just activated the game over steam and downloaded them *g* now i have a Box and download ... the way it should be
i keep all my old game boxes ... they look so nice
well dvd boxes arent as good as the old big boxes but still better than having nothing solid in your hands
Personally, I only buy a game if it's beneficial for me to actually own a legal copy of the game.
But that is when I have money to do so - I mostly.... download everything. ;)
On day I hope to move to DD but so far it's all been retail. Though "Too broke" was a close second choice. I think I've spent $70 on games for myself over the past 11 years. :P
unwrapping a card that says "you got a copy of game XXX on steam!" isn't as exciting as unwrapping a real box with a real disc with a real manual with a real new game smell. :D
for people who've never experienced this, it's like the "sex" scene from "demolition man". I'm sly & I'm trying to tell you that tangible is better! :D
That's such a brilliant analogy, haha.
i think we need to rephrase and redo this poll...
i mean, what the hell is the first option even trying to say???
I generally buy online, from somewhere like Amazon, or from a retail store. I must have my box and manual. My internet connection is sporadic, so I won't buy anything that requires any kind of online connection. I've also had a lot of bad experiences with Steam.
I used to only buy in stores, but now I mainly online through steam or direct2drive.
i buy stores but sometimes off steam. if theres a good deal for a fun game.
Primarily steam, unless its not available or the publishers are trying to rip me off because I'm not American, you know who you are *cough cough* Ubisoft *cough splut*
ummm one word
"Steam"
now you know how i buy games
where is the "I buy my games online just not digitally"
That is covered under i buy them from a store
digital stores are not stores there digital stores... duh
It deppends... But I choose digital distribution because here there are no original stores :(. Only pirates.
Heh, I need to upgrade my computer before I can get some of the newer games :(
I do prefer to buy from a retail store though, not as much troubleshooting with them ;)
I generally buy from online retail stores, although I have used steam. Only problem is I spend all my money on PC hardware. I'll have to cut back to buy all the cool games coming out at the end of this year.
People still buy games in the store?!
Personally, I prefer CD/DVD-based DRM to digital distribution-based DRM. Of course, I'd prefer none at all, but we don't live in a perfect world.
I have slow internet so I buy games from stores.
I take Digital Distribution every chance I get, but unfortunately I rarely have any e-monies.
i like to buy it in a box, its like having it physically and not virtually owning it
I'm Broke.
I still don't trust digital delivery, it has no soul anyway. Paying for packaging is worth it in my books.
Normally it's just as cheap to get a game online as it is to buy it by Digital Distribution. Plus I like having the game physically, and not having to download several GB's to play it. I got Bioshock cheaper than on Steam, 1 day before, and a physical copy of it too. I'd only use Steam if it was a lot cheaper.
I'm too broke to buy any games. R$ 100 the good games in my country.
I like buying games in my underwear.
I buy games in emporiums of pirated stuff.
No kidding.
