We did it finally! After long weeks of developing we finally did it! We´re proud to present you our Parallax Shader. It is just an amazing technology to create realistic Depth Effects in Textures. But we don´t want to show you some pics of it. No Way! Its quite more impressive to see this great technology in use live on your own computer! So we put that whole stuff into a mod mix it with some great textures and release it for you. Well to make you a bit horny here two screens ;p
Exclusiv on MODDB you can download our Twilight Parallax Mod to experience this impressive technology live on your computer. Just donwload it from the Mirrors below, install it and have fun! To run the Mod you need at least (!) the following system:
- min. 1 Ghz Pentium/Athlon
- Geforce FX Graphic Card (Shader 2.0) [ATI Cards not supported yet]
- 256/512 Memory
- 100 Mb free Disk Space
- Steam & Half-Life²

There's alot of hubbub over this with ALOT of the Hl2 mods...guys...its just really.....NOT....*that* impressive.
Makes the wall look...odd.Bump mapping would have done fine
gw but bug found.

keep up the hard work
Thx TKAzA we´ll fix it in the upcoming version! You can also post Bugs/Feedback/Ideads in our Twilight Parallax Forum
@ Mr.Kadish there are some bugs in it but´s it is "just" a alpha atm! We will fix the bugs in the upcoming versions.
And it´s the first Mod, where cou can see and "touch" the parallax mapping.
Didn't Dreamscrape do this a month ago?
Perhaps what irks me is not the technology itself, but the emphasis on "tech demos" . A new gimmick is fine, but if you're smart you'll slide it quietly into the game world and do it so seamlessly that people just wonder why your game looks so damned good.
Then your "parallax mapping" would be worth its while. In my opinion, putting it on a pedistal like this is just goofy and vain.
We´re sorry that the shady only works on Geforce Cards at the moment. Our Coders work hard to find a solution for it and maybe we fix that problem in the upcoming versions of this mod.
@Psymon Yeah Dreamscape has a PM Shader too, but they had only releaase a few shots with it. We give you the chance to test it and find out how this shader works on your system.. It thinks this is much better than just watching a picture.
@Mr.Kadish The PM Shader is only a feature of our mod. Of course a story or the gameplay is more important, but such little gimmicks can make a mod better too. Important is the final product, and i promise you, it will be great. With Parallax Shader or not!
Thanks for the Feedback and go on posting...
Damn, all i see is white!
Yea, at Dreamscape we released our Parallax stuff back in early Feb, but since then we've found that Parallax isn't really the smart way to go, and we switched to a different method...
We´re working with it at the moment and think about to make it as an optional feature. So don´t be scared dude´s! This Mod will work on "None-High-End-Systems" too, i promise.
Or non Nvidia ?
Of Course :D
Well, at least, as the developer says, they aren't just posting parallax picture (alliteration anyone?). Anyway, I got a parallax shader working, but I decided it wasn't worth the bother for people and that normal mapping can look decent and taked a buttload less system resources to look good.
y havent you made this feature compatible for ati cards yet???
These speacial texture tricks like Parallax mapping and Bump mapping degrade the quality of the texture, I tried out the demo and the texture start to look really bad when you walk up to them so i dont really like the effect but i could see how if could be effective if used lightly. One of the reasons i didnt like Doom3 is that i thought they over did it with bumpmapping not every texture needs it.
So true. I think that it can detract from the believability of the texture aswell. Not every surface is bumpy as all hell. Go out and take a look around and you'll see what I mean.
Seriouslly, every mod being made out there already has parallax map in it. I know at least 5 hl2 mod who have acomplished this sucefully, simply beause part of the parallax code is already in the source engine.
doesnt work for me, i just get a bunch of white blocks. what's up? i have a ati x800 and the latest dx
Very nice guys. Very hard on the fps. Without it on I get 110fps. Whe I have it on I get 20ish.
Those white bricks look like the bricks stick out 2-3 inces from the mortar, percieved by a sheep or horse :P
Be careful to use it only where it makes sense.
"Yea, at Dreamscape we released our Parallax stuff back in early Feb, but since then we've found that Parallax isn't really the smart way to go, and we switched to a different method... "
Indeed, if you look at the parallax source code (easy to find on google), it is totally unoptimised. It may fun fine in small areas, but on whole maps the shader can't be handled by even the quickest of systems. The best bet it to try to modify the normal map shader where possible to refine it, although I don't program so it might not be possible in HL2, still, a nice gimmick even if I can't play it on my ATI card. :)
I hope you give vredit to wrayth - he posted the paralax code that he worked on with the point blank team on his website - dont steal and call it your own
Well we don´t steal this shader it´s our own...
