So, Bethesda said the Skyrim Creation Kit would be downloadable beginning January 2012 and that month came and went. It's not all quiet on the Western Front though, because today they released a great trailer on the Creation Kit and some more information.
On the official forums, Bethesda also states that "if it's not up tomorrow [Thursday Feb 2nd 2012], it'll probably shift to next week" (Source: GStaff on the BethForum). So keep your fingers crossed that it will be here tomorrow then!
"if it's not up tomorrow, it'll probably shift to next week."
Ah, one of THOSE situations. In other words, we THINK it will work by tomorrow. But if it doesn't, that means it all went to **** and we will be at it for another week or so :P . I have seen mod teams with that kinda situation when doing last minute bug hunting and fixing. Sometimes you honestly can't say if the fixes you try the first and second times will do any good or not. But at least Bethesda has learned not to give concrete dates when they aren't really sure :P . Here's hoping it all works out by tomorrow.
so teh creation kit is basically skyrims engine in a way. sounds nice.
and never understood what steam workshop was till now. i like
Not the engine, its the editor. Every bethesda game since morrowind has had one and they've always had great mods. Adding steamworks should make obtaining those mods much easier.
For an example of what it can do,
a guy made a mod for Fallout NV/3 that added a sewer in both games that if activated would start the other game at that sewer.
Sweet, when this is out im going to build me a Castle on the top of a Mountain like High Hrothgar. This will be great!
At last! :)
Really good work Bethesda. You're on the right track.
Take the initiative and the community will support you to death!
Skyrim will live a long life.
Uhm all this sound great ^^. Just I hope the Creation Kit still support offline release of mods, since I don't want good mod websites that have been supporting the skyrim's modding scene to dissapear, also I suppose people will still want to keep mods in their harddrive, just like old times, or in case that (I hope this never happens) the mod gets deleted from the cloud for any reasons (Not updated for a long time or something else).
Anyway to be honest I don't know what are the steam's workshop term of service, so I can't say if they will get deleted or not, but still I will prefer the old fashioned way, even if it is harder, for the sake of controlling all the files that get inside the game, and, I don't know, it feels much better for me xD
Good luck and let's hope to see it today, if not a week is nothing compared to all these months of waiting ^^.
There will obviously be the option to package the files up and distribute them as you like. That's common sense.
I wonder what effect Steam Workshop would have on Desura's community, though... You can't really beat direct mod integration built by the game's own developers.
This actually sounds great. Can't wait ! Thanks Bethesda for not actually peeing on their loyal PC community. :=)
MP mod FTW!
Bitch Please, they never even got one working for Oblivion as far as I know, so what makes you think there will be a working one for Skyrim?
Is the CK Postponed to next week???
This is the latest: Pete Hines said on his Twitter that the CK will be out on Tuesday next week. He also tells us that there will be a "surprise" for us all when it comes. I'm really glad we finally get a date.
According to some of the people at the official skyrim forums, the surprise may just be an Official HD Texture Pack
