The Future is NOW
Can't wait to get your hands on Source Media Arcade 2? Then don't wait. A fully functional release candidate is now publicly available in the Downloads section.
This early-release version contains the original 2 maps and over 20 dynamic arcade cabinet models to start you off with. Remember that SM Arcade can use all of your favorite Source engine maps! Just drop them into your "smarcade2_rc1/maps" folder and they'll appear on the map list. Stock maps can be loaded with the console command "map de_dust2".
RC1 is basically a finished version of the mod. It is only missing the all-new maps and cabinets that are to be packaged with the official release come Halloween.
You have the green light to start importing your media collections.
Be sure to SHOWCASE YOUR CREATIONS on the official ModDB forums for everybody to see! Or JOIN THE STEAM GROUP to find friends to invite into your custom-built arcade!
Your media library and custom built arcades will be fully compatible with the official release come Halloween, so don't worry about losing your creations. Upgrading will be as easy as copying a few files and folders over.
If you need any help at all, just visit the official ModDB forums and start a new question thread. If necessary, I will make demonstration videos to show you exactly how to accomplish what you are trying to do.
Note: "Singleplayer" mode is when you Create Server with Max Players set to 1.
Also Note: There are no dedicated servers for Source Media Arcade. All servers are peer-hosted by other Source Media Arcade players. When your friends join your multiplayer server, they will potentially see your arcade EXACTLY as you do.
Can people actually view and play your movies and games when you're hosting? Kind of like a cloud server that the users can run programs off of?
They can view and play your movies and games if they own them as well. If they don't, the mod will recommend several websites that they can go to get the item, like Netflix, the Steam Store, or even free torrents.
They can download, install, and then watch/play the item right from the arcade without even closing the mod.
hm, you guys are awesome, I didn't try it yet but this idea is promising.
That was a huge let down... I wanted to watch a movie inside the mod like a movie theater and have the movie play on the screen in side the game while friends could join and screw around in the map and then come back and watch the movie instead this prompts a windows to watch the video...
