Post news RSS SaF is CANCELLED

...but it certainly isn't dead. Read on before you curse my name.

So, the big news is out: Shadow and Flame, in its BFME1 form presented on this profile, is cancelled.

We were running into too many limitations and other issues that prevented a proper implementation of our plans, which sucked out all the motivation we had.

Following this, both Dúnedain76 and myself (the last remaining SaF team members) started helping out RiderOfRohan with his RotWK mod, which has now developed into a sprawling project known as Age of the Ring.

RotWK is much more modding-friendly and allows us to do more of what we want, and so SaF's design philosophy, many of its best ideas, and a big chunk of its art are now a part of AotR. In that sense, I won't say it's dead - rather, it's moved on and has become something greater. Like Ben Kenobi.

I hope to see any remaining SaF fans on AotR, because that's where we'll be from now on. Look forward to an amazing BFME experience there!

Thanks for your support over the years!

Namárië,
Mathijs
SaF Team Leader

Good to hear. As someone who has been part of the modding community for several years, it seems like a natural process, since working on several mods for different games at the same time is incredibly taxing and usually cannot last.
I also think it is a great idea, because now, all (or as many as possible) resources can be pooled into a single mod and there is a clearer focus, which should tremendously help the speed of progress of the mod, benefiting both the developers and the players in the end.

Age of the Ring looks incredible, and every update is a much-appreciated gift, for me at least. I wish you good luck and I hope the mod can start to compete with Edain mod a bit, as to spark more activity in the ROTWK community, even if it might not be the intention. I await its completion diligently and patiently :).

Kindest regards.

I am happy to know that not all models and ideas are lost in the black void. And thank YOU guys for making such great content over the years!

Let's have one final toast, for the good memories of this mod, for Shadow and Flame!

I was hoping for a final version of the Gundabad faction, but I have also wished for some of the Shadow & Flame assets in AotR for maps. ;)

I can understand that completely.
But after all you are making a great job.
Carry on thats all what matters.

One thing i whish that one upon a time will be converted, is the BFME1 Story-Mode, i'd like to play that with the Highres and Classes of BFME2+RoTWK (depending on which game it will be released) where in my opinion after the latest patches etc. RoTWK is the greater game or at least makes BFME2 better ;)

Thanks for all these beautiful Screens!

I believe something along those lines is planned for AotR.

There are so many pieces of art here that are not to be thrown away, but instead we may all be greatful if you implement them and pass on to the AOTR. Clearly BFME1 is an old game and very restricted to work on. Hopefully we will see all your hard efforts done here over there. Good luck with whatever comes next

Although it's sad, AotE will be even greater then.
